I think the question of "what was the play call with 4 seconds left" came from Dochterman of the CR Gazette.

Mike Gesell was going to answer the question but Fran cut Mike off. Fran's reply was "It's none of your business what the last play call was."

Twice a reporter followed up on the original question. The first time? Fran again said "it is none of your business. Period." The 2nd time? He sat there quiet.

Here is video of the question, follow up questions, and the reactions from Mike, JU and Fran:

Kind of makes you wonder what the play call was. I think Fran had 1 option and it got shut down, so there was no secondary option and it showed.

No problem with Fran there. Mike already said they were trying to get it in and get a good shot off. Who was suppose to get the ball is irrelevant at that point.

He called some other fan an " idiot " on the call in show during the week who has a legitimate question and was short with Dolph as well who almost always has his back. He's a hothead.

Dolph is an alcoholic.....

Fran a saint for putting up with him these last few years.

Time for Dolph to "retire."

Angry Fran was here 2 years ago(Yes he was incredibly stressed out) but it obviously affected the entire team, players and coaches. Last year I didn't really notice angry Fran and there was alot of success. This year angry Fran showed up again and we see another collapse. I can't help but feel that this is part of the problem. If someone feels abused it will affect their performance. I know Fran wants to really succeed but he has got to get control of his anger. Anger affects other people.

I don't think the play was drawn up to toss it out of bounds at half court. I, for one, am interested in what it was supposed to be.

Hell i dont know anything and i could clearly tell they were trying to get it to Uthoff. the defender manhandled him and blocked the pass off. instead of throwing it over top to uthoff he panicked and threw it cross court away from the basket. ie. the worst possible pass to make jn that situation. pretty much the only pass you CANNOT make in that situation.

the inbounder gave the game away. that isn't on Fran.

We have the dumbest fan base in America!

It is none of our business. Maybe I just think differently, but he is coaching a game, for student-athletes to participate in. He answers to Gary Barta and above, not the average fan and definitely not the media.
It is not his fault if we the fans let a student athlete game take control of our lives! Step back, realize there are a few things more important than a game! If this ruins your weekend or next week or even next season, take that step back and don't become so heavily involved with it.

It is definitely part of a Big 10 coaches job to answer questions from the media.

Can you be this dense?

It wouldnt matter if he drew up the best most open, unguarded shots in the history of the game. They went 2-20 for God's sake! that is HORRIBLE!

If he drew up the best most open shots in the history of the game they wouldnt be 2-20.

Teams go through shooting slumps all the time. Good coaches get their players easy looks to get them going.

I don't think it unreasonable for a member of the media to ask a question during a post game press conference and get an actual response. I guess I *am* dumb.

Just the sort of answer I'd expect when your team plays a listless 36 minutes, then puts exactly 2:15 together to somehow tie the game (believable, considering how bad Illinois is), then proceeds to AGAIN piss a game away the last 90 seconds.

Fran is a good basketball coach, but I suspect he's as exasperated as the fan base is. You just can't make this crap up any more.

If it went down as advertised, he's protecting Mike there...but still.

I'm not watching the Iowa tourney game. Yes, singular. Can't do it, cause you can book it that they will piss the game down their legs somehow. I remember watching the UNI ending...that bounce Washpun got, and thinking to myself, I don't believe we got "that bounce" once with this senior class. I don't remember any at all. It NEVER goes in for this team.

Coming from a guy who boasted about Fran in close games after the Minnesota win.
