yes, Gary Barta is Fran's boss, not the fans or the media. That said Fran is required to speak with the media and the collective opinion the fans have of Fran influences Gary Barta. Look at the pressure the fan base put on Barta over Kirk Ferentz until the 12-0 season that just went down.It is none of our business. Maybe I just think differently, but he is coaching a game, for student-athletes to participate in. He answers to Gary Barta and above, not the average fan and definitely not the media.
It is not his fault if we the fans let a student athlete game take control of our lives! Step back, realize there are a few things more important than a game! If this ruins your weekend or next week or even next season, take that step back and don't become so heavily involved with it.
My point is that Fran's relationship with the media and fans is like any professional's relationship with colleagues. No, there is no direct line of authority but getting along and being well liked makes success much easier and more likely.
