Iowa has offered a 7'3" 8th grader (class of 2019) named Chol Marial. He's going to school at Cheshire Academy in Connecticut but he's from South Sudan originally so I'm assuming some kind of connection to Peter Jok. He and the younger McCaffery bro would really start that class out right.

Here's a link to his current video. Ridiculous athleticism for a guy his size.

It would be great to land this kid. The 2020s would be off to a good start. Was Fran really interested in Manute Bol's son down in Missouri, or were people just hoping he was? I remember the highlight video. What a twin tower package that would be.

This is all in sarcasm as I like Woody's defensive presence,
but that kid had more dunks and blocked shots in the highlight video than Woody's whole career.

As I said before I'm just joking.

He may just go the Kobe and Lebron route and miss college all together. Hope Fran can pull a surprise.

I was expecting something else. That kid can play basketball!!!! Very seldom does a guy have to hold the ball well above the rim and wait until he gets there!!!! It's like he's looking down at it.
He's very lucky with his height that he is not struggling just to stand up.

Yea, I expected an incredibly awkward kid who struggled to stand up, not that. He's going to a blue blood, for a year, if that's still required by the time he graduates.

So far has offers from Delaware, Florida State, West Virginia, and Iowa.

7'2" 205lbs. is what he stated his current height/weight is just recently.

His coach has big expectations for him.

From a recruiting standpoint, Chol would be in the Class of 2019. Kehoe, the 2014 New England Prep School Coach of the Year, said he expects him to be a 2020 NBA Lottery pick.

Kehoe, 58, is in his eighth year at the CA helm. He’s also a patriarch of AAU basketball in the state, which helps put the following statement in its proper perspective:

“What it boils down to is Chol’s got the gifts of a Sampson, of people well beyond the average NBA player. I think the bottom line is he has a ceiling to become one of the top NBA players to play in his era. If you’re one of the top players of your era, where do you end up? In Springfield.”

At this point, college choice is far from Chol’s mind, but Kehoe sees him as an eventual target of the elite — Kentucky, Kansas, Duke and North Carolina.

Can you imagine being an eigth grader and seeing that on the opposite bench? I am sure a lot of nervous kids watching him warm up during pregame if you are on the opposing team.

Hell, why even do the jump ball? ..... LOL

Does Fran and Co have any connections to him or his school?

From the quotes above, seems like the kid or coach is going to expect blue blood offers. Hope Iowa can stay near the top for the next 3 years...

7'3" 8th grader? I'm trying to wrap my eyeballs around that.
Doesn't say how old he is, ha. We had an exchange student from overseas one year and they graduated from high school after 10th grade but yet she had already learned much of what was being studied here in her sophomore year. It's difficult to tell what a seventh grader means there. I would think it highly unlikely he would be late 13 or early 14 years old which is the age most 8th graders would be here at this time of year.

Maybe Fran should pull a Harbaugh and schedule a sleepover.

I actually Like the fact that Fran has offered early. This young man is going to have a GAZILLION offers and the only way for him to get to Iowa is to learn about Peter Jok's success now.,
