Fran's Coaching in close games

I admire your work ethic to do the research---your are providing good information on a site where presenting facts/actual results makes you a Hater.

I was curious about Fran's seemingly abysmal performance in NCAA tourney play. I think he is 0-7 to get to sweet 16 at Iowa. If B-ball games outcomes were random like a coin flip, then the chance of Fran NOT making the Sweet16 zero times in seven tries is is around 15.6%....this is based on 1/4 chance winning 2 games in a row for normal year and 1/8 chance making sweet16 in the one year Iowa appeared in the First-4.

Of course this is simplistic...in 1st round Iowa would usually be heavily favored in 2nd round Iowa would usually be the underdog....however to 1st order it does indicate Fran is either unlucky or suffers from systematic issues...i.e. a systematic issue would be say.... he plays the guys with good offense/poor defense over the guy with poor offense/good defense + he has a loyalty bias towards playing people he's shares dna with or he's known the longest..i.e. cmac, pmac, jbo.

Maybe Fran's luck will change in future. He is an old man and does seems to suffer from old man syndrome of beign set in his ways.
How many second round games has Iowa been favored in during the Fran era? Last year was probably it. We certainly weren't against Tenn, Gonzaga, Villanova. I would say a true disappointment in the tourney was this year and that is it. Even last year Oregon was a 4 seed playing as a 7 seed and didnt have to play a first round game.

Lets go back and check Lickliter and Alford's NCAA tourney record at Iowa. O wait...

WE have certainly not had much luck in seeding, until this year.. With that being said, sometimes you have to be the team that pulls the upset. We've had a lot of those "sometimes" and been on the wrong side of the "sometimes" too many others.
You can't continually use the unlucky/not favored argument because many times it has been Iowa's fault.

Gard did have a good record in close games this year but I didn't know that going in.
How could you have not known that fact. It was told to us every time Wisconsin played. It was a pretty impressive stat this year. Aren't you the guy that claims he watches more than Iowa basketball?

You know what, the day you know Gard's won/loss record in +/- 5 games off the top of your head is the day I will bow to your superior intellect. That is not a stat given during games, you have to look it up, hence I didn't know. Given their record, you assume it's good but you don't exactly know what it is.
I would assume Iowa did well in close games this year because of our record but I would be wrong, it was 3-6. So I don't assume wisconsins close game record to be a fact based upon w-l in 1 season.
