9 seasons total 4 NCAA trips, 3 NIT, 2 losing seasons. That part of it seems decent enough: But thinking about these seasons the NIT teams were almost more enjoyable than the NCAA teams.
Year 2- back in post season. Excitement and a crazy atmosphere home NIT game. Getting rid of the stench of the Lick era. Things looking up.
Year 3- hoping for NCAA bid but a deep NIT run with young players keeps things looking bright
Year 7- Jok and a bunch of freshman: keep things interesting the whole year. Team showed some swagger. JBo drilling that shot at Wisky. Guys like Pemsl displaying some cockiness . We had everybody back but Pete so the next year should be better right?
Three of the four NCAA tourney teams looked at one point in January and/or Feb to be something special. Beating good teams - being ranked, winning conference a possibility, top 3 or 4 seed could happen. Then, for each of what were arguably Frans best three teams, they fell with a thud the last part of the season. This is what drives fans crazy. The hope crumbling before the seaon ends . What almost was or could have been turns into a meh sort of finish. The one NCAA team that won 6 in a row at the end (Whites senior year) was the exception. They were looking like a middling NIT team then came on at the end. But for the other three each teams the NCAA bid felt like whipped cream on top of a pile of sh:t. So three of the last six years all have that same feel.
Now, if they somehow win 2 games then it’s the best season in 20 years and they can shut every critic up, at least for awhile .
