I'm watching Duke - MSU...and this is not the same MSU team that played in the B10. They turn up the intensity and everyone plays their role. I simply don't know how he does it.

History of winning. Winning culture. I believe this is why teams like Michigan and MSU can look so mediocre during the regular season and make runs when it really counts. Players know what is expected and feed on the programs history and legacy when the games really count. Meanwhile teams like Iowa choke and collapse in the same situation because the program has no winning culture or history.
MSU has athletes that can compete....Hauser however isn't an athlete and just got his shot swatted.

Every single NCAA Tourney game I've watched this weekend has looked like a B1G conference game, in terms of officiating.
Almost identical - or heck, even more physical at times - when were were told it would be different in the Big Dance.
Gotta hand it to some of these players. They've worked on their 'flop game' so much, its a bit difficult to tell at times, even though just about every 'charge' any more has a certain degree of flopping by the guy getting ran or bowled over.
Brad Davison, and guys like him, have ruined the whole block/charge part of the game; imo.
Yes that’s my point. These games are more physical than what Iowa experienced all year - and that’s not good for Iowa’s style. Very good for ISU’s/MSU’s style who fouls every possession - because they aren’t all called in March.
He builds his team around defense (fouling) and guard play. It's a tournament team, they were down this year but his recipe is good.
They won 1 more NCAA Tourney game than Iowa.
Yeah, "didn't win shit" is the first thing I think of when I think of the Izzo era of MSU basketball...
Duke would've beaten Iowa by 40 had they played this week. Izzo took one of the worst teams he's ever had and took them into the final minute.

And I countered with saying he still accomplished more than Iowa did in the NCAA Tourney THIS YEAR despite having one of his worst teams, not to mention that he came a few possessions from beating a team that would typically dismantle Iowa in the Round of 32. I also suggested that maybe Izzo has accomplished enough to be a bit above random message board dude's criticism when it comes to the NCAA Tourney.

Yes. Duke wouldnt have beat Iowa by 40. MSU got exactly one more NCAA win than Iowa and Iowa won the BTT, yet you act like MSU has the better season. F that. I’ll take what Iowa did this year over MSU every year.
No need arguing about fantasy worlds, but I think I have history on my side with this one.
Which was an infinite amount more, and equal to Iowa's best performance over the past 23 years, despite having one of their worst teams ever.
It just doesn't matter. When you lay a huge turd in your first NCAA Tourney game, it essentially erases these kinds of accolades. When will Iowa fans learn that?
This is subjective, and I guess I disagree. Getting to the BTT semis, winning the first NCAA Tourney game and then taking the country's premier BB program to the final minute is more success than Iowa has had a vast majority of seasons in the post-Davis era. It would be something that would have me feeling a bit disappointed that we couldn't pull off the huge upset, but I'd look back on the season rather fondly (kinda like the 1997 season when we gave Kentucky all they could handle in the Round of 32). The Richmond debacle has made it impossible for me to look back on the 2022 season as anything but a disaster (JBo's rage Tweeting sure doesn't help, either), despite the nice run they had and the BTT championship. Just the way it is, much like 2006/NW State.
I strongly disagree with your assessment of winning the Big tournament. 4 very enjoyable days and an achievement you can’t take away. I still remember the two that Alford win, very fondly. I disagree that you assess an entire season based upon a couple of NCAA games. Before this season I felt we were a long shot to make the NCAAs. We far exceeded my expectation. But if you want to base a whole season on the last game, go for it. You’re going to be disappointed every year.

I'm sure Iowa St is very jealous of our BTT championship and having an All-American for the third straight year. They turn around from a 2-win season with a 1st-year head coach that came from a mid-major and do more than what our gagillionaire 12th year guy could ever do. You seem happy with Iowa basketball right now, though; Fran and Gary Barta thank you. Because of people like you they'll be around probably forever. Thank goodness, because I'd hate to have a coach like T.J. come to Iowa City.
He has 9 top 100 players on his roster. The question is why didn't they play better during the season?
Gee, it seems to me, based on the 10 threads that say exactly the same thing, that "Real" Iowa fans have a standard list of talking points as well.
