Killed us vs Utah St and nearly did tonight. Everyone stay in Carver all night and work on them. Crazy how bad we are at them but thanks to the man with a large Dix we are 7-1 still!

I mentioned this in another thread, but Owen going for steals away from the basket and leaving the hoop unprotected also hurt, as did his only getting 3 boards.
This!!!! How many times he's defending out by the three point line, and the other center is in the lane and ends up with a guard on him if anyone at all. Dam Fran, how about fixing that shit!

I'd be willing to bet our better shooters, Sandfort's, Dix, Harding all are capable of shooting 85%+. It's mental. I would guess in practice all of these guys have had streaks of hitting 50+ FT's in a row. When I played we would have contests of most in a row (outside of regular practices) and my best was over 80 in a row. One other guard I played with hit 120 in a row.

It has to be a mental issue. They need to take their time, focus on rim and form & let muscle memory take over. Has to be frustrating for coaches.

Is an Achilles heel. We have to get better at the line.
This is the first problem:

We used to be a good free throw shooting team. Terrible this year, hope it’s just a bad stretch but Pryce, Freeman and Brock don’t appear to be good FT shooters.

The two guys that get to the line the most are the two worst FT shooters and both are from Moline.

Pryce FT stroke is there and he'll end up over 80 percent this season.

If Fran stresses better shot selection from Payton, plays more small lineups with more Thelwell, and Traore gets healthy and starts over Dimbele, Mulvey gets 1st minutes as backup center over Braun/Dimbele, and they start making FTs then this team can make NCAA tourney and just maybe win 1 NCAA game, and possibly get lucky to Sweet16. What are chances Fran makes the moves to improve defense/rebounding/shot selection? Unlikely.

I've been predicting 10-10 in conference play and I'll stick with it for now. If Michigan really is top of B1G type team, then taking them to final shot is not a bad sign.

10-10 gets them in the tourney. I think this team has a higher ceiling but need to start with basics like making fts..

Pretty much agree. We got screwed by the refs but Fran playing Dembele and Brauns over Riley against 7 footers made no sense. I think Harding will figure out the FT thing, Pryce is harder to figure out why he’s so bad at FT. Overall, this game gave me more hope than anything. Get Traore back and our defense improves by 5-10 points.

Freeman is one of the poorest free throw shooters. He gets fouled a lot so it’s imperative for him to get up to 70% or higher.

Drives me absolutely nuts that players at the college level can shoot free throws so poorly. They are free, they are consistent, practice and make them! I'm not expecting 90%+, but at least like 75-80% seems like a reasonable expectation.

A need to refocus, take a breath and block everything that has happened in the game to that point and regain that composure that you have when you practice hitting free throw after free throw in practice

Pryce hasn't shot many FTs. I think 4/7 this year. Hard to get a rhythm that way. And Freeman shot poorly to start last year but got his average up to 66%. So far this year he is at 54%. I would think both guys will improve and end up higher.

Rhythm? His best skill is his shooting ability and is on scholarship. You don’t need rhythm to make free throws…

Not enough opportunities to get into a rhythm. Freeman missed 2, everyone else (except Payton) missed 1. But nobody shot more than 4 FTs, so 1 miss each drags the percentage down.

Always funny seeing you come over from the OT board to attempt to talk hoops. Please tell us how sneaky of an athlete Dix is.

I'm actually on the football board and here, then I go over to OT,.. glad that I can afford you some level of amusement.

That or in some cases tired.

It's happening throughout the game, not just the last 4 minutes. And being fatigued leads to mental weakness. That would be on Fran if players are playing over 30 minutes. And further to this, most practices shoot FT's at the end of a 2 hour practice. Let's not let "tired" become another excuse.

I was just wondering if exhaustion might be part of the problem since they seem to be trying to guard people this year.
