I am not a true wrestling guy but an Iowa fan who loves the Hawks. With that disclaimer, those of you lapping up this fun crap make me laugh. Penn St right now is the Alabama of wrestling. An elite coach with unlimited resources and loads of talent. That combination makes it tough on everyone else.

People have listed their recruiting rankings a number of times on here and it is an all Star team. Coudos to them for figuring out how to do that with 9 scholarships, I am sure it is on the up and up.

Iowa wrestling right now is like Iowa football, hard working guys who r battlers. Works well until you come across elite talent that is also well coached.

Solution. Find a way to bring in elite guys with 9 scholarships without cheating. Penn St has shown across their total athletic program that winning is more important than the integrity of following the rules or law. Up hill battle against those who choose that path.
Iowa seems to be on the road to bringing in more elite level h.s. talent. My bet these guys will have lots of fun.

Iowa has unlimited resources for their wrestling team, and an elite coach, but not any elite athletes. Iowa could have the same thing PSU has. They have to earn it. They have to drop the tough guy crap, and put a smile on every once in a while. Kids have changed. Having fun isn't bs to them, it's important. Act like a caveman, and win, or be a normal person with a smile on my face and win?

What I'm having a hard time with is whether the Penn State wrestlers are having fun because they are winning or whether they're wining because they're having fun. In other words does having fun make a person a good wrestler or is being a dominate wrestler fun. This is deep philosophical stuff.

OP the challenge to Cael's integrity here is uncalled for. It took a ton of guts for Cael to dismiss Andrew Long from the team even though it cost them a national championship in 2011. His points would have most likely put them over the top.

All this "fun" is a great recruiting tool. A different spin on getting guys on board. Being a Navy seal is probably fun when you get to go kill some bad guys, but getting through hell week and the grind, is not. The reward however, has got to be fun.

Allow me to answer the question for you, in a way that will shock, and possibly anger you:

DAN GABLE, after Cael was hired for Penn State, said this: "Cael Sanderson is changing the sport. Cael Sanderson is going to revolutionize this sport, in the way he wrestled, and the way he coaches".

I didn't say that, Dan Gable did.

This is NOT an affront to the Brands brothers, who I like, both of them, and who are, by the way, beginning to change their philosophy, to adapt to what Cael is doing, and win a championship, somewhere down the line, for Iowa.

PSU fan here, once a coach told me, you chose this, you say you love this, so do it hard. The work should be fun, the challenge should be fun. This wasn't wrestling but do your best and enjoy it. Hard work and fun don't have to be mutually exclusive.

He brought in a guy who was under discipline on another team and was later accused of sexual assault. He should not have brought him on to begin with and he had no choice but to let him go. Yes he has a right to question his integrity for bringing Long on in the first place.

Re-read what I wrote again looking for my sarcasm. It's off the charts.
