Good call, sir. Probably faster than my frozen turkey straight into the oil trick.
If you’re going that route, might want to stick to a series of tactical frozen chicken wings before you lay down the heavy fire with the Cornish hen and turkey

Good chance it’s somebody who knew your wife was going to be out of town, or at least saw her packing and leaving.
A full-sized shotgun might not be as practical as you’d hope. I once woke up to an intruder walking through my bedroom and retrieving my full sized shotgun from under my bed wasn’t going to be a quick and easy task had I needed to do so. So I bought a 9mm Beretta pistol.
If you’re going to go the shotgun route, I’d recommend a riot or trench style shotgun with a really short barrel.
100% will. I'm still pretty twitchy about it. I talked to all the close by neighbors and let them know what's up. Good to have everyone on the lookout.OMG I check every door and window and every slider every night and I’m in an okay neighborhood. I even check to make sure my garage door is down, then I deadbolt the door to the garage. I turn on porch and walkway lights.
Please tell me you will lock up tight. During the winter there’s absolutely no reason all windows can’t be locked when it 15 degrees outside!
If you have someone enters your house, unload the clip in them no matter what type weapon you have. Some of the service pistols I have seen don't appear to pack as much force as I was thinking. If I have to discharge it, I don't want it to take six shots to stop the altercation. I like the 9mm idea.
Is that the knucklehead that shot his woman through a closed door or something? You don't remember this guy?
Wifey (no pic) and kids are down at the lake at the in-laws for Christmas since I worked yesterday and will through the rest of the week. Woke up around 4:30 and went to the kitchen to get something to drink. We have really large windows on one end of our kitchen. As I came around the corner in view of those windows, there is perp #1 in all black and a ski mask looking right at me. Luckily, my retreat path took me past both kids' rooms, son's room was clear. I got to daughter's room next to ours and there is perp #2. We had her shade half open so I could clearly see him.
Our bedroom was right next to hers so I called 911 and retreated to our closet and kept them on the line until local police arrived. We have no weapons in the house, but I at least snagged a large kitchen knife on the way out of the kitchen. I was still scared as fook. LE swept the house and there were no signs of anything broken to get in, they just saw footsteps. The wife confirmed the Ring activity at the front door. Maybe timing was such they saw me and left. Whatever it is, the family won't be back until Saturday so I thought I might try to tighten up a few things. Any suggestions on what to do?
* small arms? are air-powered weapons feasible? storage location?
* locks, type and operation?
* windows, some are locked, some aren't. you could fit a cooler through the window in our front door. no clue why realtor whore that sold it to us put that in.
* any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.
I have had three heart procedures and been in the hospital for about two of the past three weeks, just got home Tuesday. I about spent the rest.
Cheers!
Yup. The ole fatty fatty 2x4 technique. Is that the knucklehead that shot his woman through a closed door or something?
Woke up one morning to the sound of a drawer opening. Look up and there’s a guy standing there. Turns out it’s the neighbor from across the hall. Claimed he was drunk and had just got home (at 8 am) and was locked out of his apartment. Thought I was at work and my door was ajar, so he was going to crash at my place.
Motion sensor outdoor lights.I always leave at least one kitchen light and one small family room lamp when I am there by myself. Wifey needs it pitch black to sleep. I am horrible about window shades. Our front ones are closed, but the sides and back of the house are generally open. I am thinking about a small service pistol that I could keep locked on a shelf in the closet, about three steps from our bed.
Would think we have keys to our house somewhere. Not sure when it was last locked. We would likely need to make a trip to the hardware store if we really wanted to lock it.OMG I check every door and window and every slider every night and I’m in an okay neighborhood. Interesting point you bring up here. She was talking like I was ordering a pizza, ok, stay on the line, what's the address, the garage code? How many do you see? I'm like how the fook should I know, that's why I called you!99% of the time the perps have already killed you before the 911 dispatched officers arrive at your location
Motion detector lights at all 4 corners of the home.
Get a gun, practice using it, keep it secured.
All house doors are locked at all times, even when screen door is open when nice out. One never knows, have Ring cameras and lights, scary to see perps aren’t afraid when flood lights go on at night.OMG I check every door and window and every slider every night and I’m in an okay neighborhood. I’m kinda relieved that there are still places in America where people feel safe at this level, but sad to say those days are over for the majority of us.Would think we have keys to our house somewhere. Calm. I did take the advice of @goldmom and make sure all windows/doors were locked, shades were pulled, outside lights were on. Seemed like everyone in the neighborhood had every outside light on. With that and Christmas lights, it was like daytime! How was your night?
When I lived in downtown KC back around 2010, one of my buddies needed to crash late so he stayed with me. The next morning, he runs to grab a coffee and comes back up all pissy. Asked him what was up and he said "my fooking car got broken into in the parking lot". I asked him what they got and he says.....I had a back seat full of Christmas presents, my Ipod, my sunglasses and my guitar. I thought he was a tad more seasoned than that being a musician that played a lot of local gigs.So my son and his family flew out for Minnesota and left the Christmas tree at the curb and 50+ inflatables plus 1,000 lights unplugged in the front yard, Ya think they should have just left a large sign in the driveway that says we’re out of town please rob us? I told them either take down the 5+ Minions, three dinosaurs, a life size Clark Griswold, and assorted creatures from Frozen and leave the tree unplugged but in place inside til they get back but did they listen…?
They said oh the neighbors are keeping an eye out for us…riighht. 🙄
I am SO going to be that Mom who says I told you so if they’re burglarized.
Much appreciated, brother. I was hoping you would chime in on this!Freaky shit.
The quickest, easiest, thing you could do that would make an actual difference would be a dog. Bad guys want little resistance, if you have a dog and your neighbor does not.... you now have a barrier.
Outdoor lights would be a good idea.
We run a ring system, I don't love it, I want a better camera for the front of my house/drive.
I reviewed a bedside safe here awhile ago. Huge fan. I go CZP10, with a shotgun in the closet and 2 ARs around the house to work towards. That's my system, have a system, mainly so you know where your family is.
Intial review Vaultek VS20i
Bought a new nightstand safe. The major focus for me was: Biometric entry. Manual entry Backup. Cool thing it has that I'm wondering how much it will be used: An app to tell you if it has been opened/disturbed. I did also purchase the additional battery. It's plugged in, with a battery...iowa.forums.rivals.com
Steal and ADT sign. Anything is better than nothing.
Freaky Deal, may you never have to worry about it again.Much appreciated, brother. I was hoping you would chime in on this!
The good thing about the other night was that it was just me so I could hunker down pretty quickly. Even if wifey and the two kids were there, I could have had both in the closet within 20 seconds. Of course, that is now knowing there were no perps inside the house. That particular closet is a mountain of hanging clothes and extra blankets, etc. This was probably the first time ever that I said "oh fook, I don't have a gun".
The bed in our room is a California King and has large drawers under. I think I could fit some type of lockbox with a handgun in there pretty easilly.
Oh yeah, I got out of the hospital after a 3-day stint by about 3:00 on Christmas Eve. Wifey and the kids went to the lake on Christmas Day since I had to work. They'll get back tomorrow or Sunday. Unfortunately, she has the flu again so not quite sure how that's going to work. I don't mind the quiet time alone and being able to get a few things done that I need.Freaky Deal, may you never have to worry about it again.
Hope you were able to salvage a Christmas.

I was within about ten feet of perp #1 separated by a pane of glass. He looked to be every bit of my height (about 6'1") and dressed for the occasion. I only saw the head of the other guy, but based on head/window height, maybe a tad shorter.Post the ring pic of the burglars please. I'd love to see what they looked like.
And you brought a friend with you? Don’t worry, @jasonrann, they were just there to do their makeup, talk about cute boys, and pee sitting down. 😉Look, all I needed was to use your bathroom. There was no need to call the police.
That's why I sent them to the stoner neighbors on the opposite side! And you brought a friend with you? Don’t worry, @jasonrann, they were just there to do their makeup, talk about cute boys, and pee sitting down. 😉
I have no idea who the other dude was. I assume he was there to rob the house. And you brought a friend with you? Don’t worry, @jasonrann, they were just there to do their makeup, talk about cute boys, and pee sitting down. 😉
That’s about the scariest thought imaginable. Glad the family was gone and you’re safe.
I’m not a yuge gun person but this is about the only reason where I feel having a weapon in the house is verified. However, I think in order:
1) dog
2) some type of short barrel shotgun
3) handgun
Was going to say this; but get some motion lights. They are fairly easy to install and some of them are bright as hell. Not sure how busy the OPs neighborhood is; but if those go off, i have to assume most perps will move along.I hate them, but exterior lights on all the time, especially at any entry point.
Shit like OP is very, very rare. Given his other posts about being gone a lot, it seems like his place was cased and they didn’t expect him home.I’m kinda relieved that there are still places in America where people feel safe at this level, but sad to say those days are over for the majority of us.
