Wright had an interesting final 3 schools in her initial recruitment: Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Boston College. Perhaps a somewhat academic focus. Guyton had an early Ohio State offer, but not much traction among usual Sweet 16 schools. Neither Guyton nor Wright had an especially impressive offer list.

Can we really call that a demand
I think words like 'demanding' can be interpreted a lot of different ways.

If I had to guess, I'd say 'demand' probably wasn't the right word to use. Can't comment at all on what the actual nature of things was. I actually think Skim might have reused the word more in reply to an earlier question. Like, someone said something like 'did the Hawkeyes really not like portal target X or was Deal actually demanding to play PG' -- sort of an exaggeration to make the distinction clearer -- so it just started getting used because someone decided to phrase their question like that.

Kennise was not recruited heavily in high school and I doubt any major schools have any or much interest in her currently. If you are going into the portal these days you better know of schools who would be interested.

Maybe she likes being close to Chicago and living in Iowa City. Maybe she just likes the teammates.

The rumor a year or so ago was that her and Hanna Stuelke were an item. Maybe she has someone she doesn't want to leave behind.

At least one media person who closely covers the women Hawkeyes has said she won't see the court at Iowa for any meaningful minutes.

Every team has someone or 2 or 3, that rarely get off the bench and they stay on the team.

Maybe she's just grateful that Iowa is giving her a free college education.

Wonder what number CCW will wear as a Hawkeye. She was #1 at GT, but Stremlow wears that for Iowa.
(*Houston wore #5 in high school, so she will likely be looking for a new number as well )

1 -- Stremlow
2 -- McCabe
3 -- Deal (presumed)
4 -- Feuerbach
5 -- Heiden
13 -- Johnson
23 -- Gyamfi
32 -- Levin
45 -- Stuelke
52 -- Hays (presumed)
55 -- Mallegni

Wright's high school number was #43, but I would guess she takes a remaining single digit number. Anyone's guess. Just something I was thinking about this morning.

With Chit Chat coming in, it's the best of both worlds. We did need another ball handler and now there are more options- we can play fast or big or shoot from the outside. I always liked how Lisa would change the pace of the game- it confused the opposing players and many times, the coaches. I hope we can get back to where we run teams out of the gym although I'm not sure if that's Jan's style, she does like her centers.

Not to mention that Jensen said the other day how Deal can play the 2 or 1 (and she has said things like that before talking about Addie. She wouldn't talk about other options if there were no other options.

Put that rumor to rest.
Yeah, said she plays point for her high school team and the 2 in AAU.

Here's a couple of insightful articles on our newest playmaker (Chit-Chat) with her own remarks about herself and her new team.

Chazadi ‘Chit-Chat’ Wright has committed to Iowa women’s basketball
5-foot-4 guard will join assistant LaSondra Barrett in a move from Georgia Tech to Iowa, and has three years of eligibility remaining

Who Is Chazadi Wright? Stats, NIL and Everything You Need to Know About Iowa Star
"For Iowa, Wright’s speed and playmaking fill a critical gap. With her defensive instincts and knack for breaking presses, she’s a perfect fit for Jensen’s up-tempo style. She could battle for a starting spot alongside five-star freshman Addie Deal, and her bond with assistant coach Barrett might give her an edge in adjusting to Big Ten play."

Maybe she'll take 99 now that it's permitted in college.

Chazadi:
Responding to how she can have significant impact in a game despite her small stature…

“I feel like I play bigger than what I am, I can get rebounds, box out bigger people. It’s pretty crazy what I can do.”

… regarding her visit with the team…

“We just had a ball. We were laughing the whole time, making TikToks and really enjoying each other’s presence. It was crazy.”

… what was the deciding factor…

“The majority of (the decision) was just like the feeling that I had. Everything felt natural, the bond that I built with my now-to-be teammates in that short period of time. It just felt like I knew them forever.”

… her thoughts about the team…

“Everybody else on the team is so good. It’s a very dynamic team. Everybody has their role, and they’re willing to do whatever they can, to play to the best of their ability to win. And that’s something I like to be a part of.”

Edit: My favorite quote; “It’s pretty crazy what I can do”

Raygun is selling Addie Deal T-shirts with a #7 on them, so I assumed that would be her number at Iowa. (There are photos out there of her wearing #7 for some other teams.)

I agree that CCW seems like a good fit for a single-digit number, maybe 0 or 3 or one of the other newly available numbers, like 6. Or maybe she goes back to 43, just for the irony of a random big number on a little player.

I’ll guess Houston does some variation on her 5 number from high school … maybe 15.

Agreed that Hays likely goes with 52.

Didn't know that about Deal, and didn't look very deep. Deal #7 sounds like a definite.

More like grumpy old drunk. Sober up idiot.
CCW is an exciting addition to this team. She brings intangibles of enthusiasm and work ethic every coach searches for in a player. I think it will be contagious. Her quickness will be on display in her play immediately. Because of her small physical stature she will have a bullseye on her back from the beginning. I think she will relish this role. It will likely take some of the initial focus of AD and give her a chance to adjust. This has the potential to be a very high upside upgrade.

Were her parents on drugs when they named her?
Please leave.

I could not be more excited about Chit-Chat. She’s going to be a great player at Iowa, and you can tell she is a great person from everything I’ve seen. I’m excited to renew my season tickets to watch her play for the next few years and to welcome her and her family to Hawkeye Nation.

Also, it’s a cool nickname, so it’s clear that you are just here to be an asshole and don’t have any genuine interest in this thread’s topic. SoOo BUH-BYE. 👋

Re: Deal demanding to play the 1, I really don't think it's supported by the evidence.

Iowa was still chasing Skinner hard (to the extent the coaches went down to Mexico for an international event) after Deal committed. Iowa started chasing Oehrlein and Harpring in the Class of 2026 after Deal committed (and after Greenway was clearly going elsewhere).

After the Oklahoma loss, Jan said Iowa needed a 1 in the portal. She said the same a few days ago before Wright committed.

Skinner is the big one for me. Iowa made her Top 5 and she didn't visit 2 of the 5. She's arguably the best PG in her class. Was Iowa really trying to pitch her on playing off-ball because it already had Deal? That doesn't seem likely.

Skim has proven to be a very reliable source for transfer news and commitments, but that assertion just doesn't seem to be supported by Iowa's actions.
What elite program is not going to have depth and competition at all positions. If you are going to want to get to Conn., S. Carolina level, you better have the depth. If another PG is that good, the coaches will find the minutes and even play both at the same time.

Agreed. I think Wright is our pg. With her handles why take the ball out of her hands.

Now with guyton I'd be more open to the deal being pg. So many turnovers. That said she was in her head and didn't play freely. Not crapping on her. She will be good at illinois!

Man can't wait for next season! Wright is exactly what we needed.

If the roster stays as is, I see us higher than the 6th seed from last year. Top 4 in the Big 10.

Michigan, ucla, juju is out most of next year, who else?

Maryland has reloaded. I think they'll be pretty good.

Well, an 11th place finish and a 40-point loss in the 2nd round to a non-elite team doesn't resemble the Clark years.
Come On Please GIF by NBA
Dude....a little perspective. Brand new coaching and year one minus Clark. We should all be happy it was overall a very successful season.

Wait a second. I thought things were falling apart for the women’s program and Jan was squandering all of the momentum from the Caitlin years. Is that still the case? Need some help on this one.
YES!! Huge get...all of the elite programs were fighting over this transfer portal point guard who averages just 2 assists per game and a red hot 37% shooting percentage. On the bright side, she comes in on day one as the shortest player in the Big 10. That's definitely a selling point. You are correct, Jan is killing it in the portal by signing the cream of the crop and is really taking advantage of Caitlin Clark mania. Maybe she can round the class out by landing a center who averages 2 rbs per game?

News flash...Iowa has a ton of available scholarships...they are going to sign players. That's not a win. It's called filling out a roster like every team does. It doesn't mean these fallbacks are the players the staff wanted most or will difference makers.

I'm sure this is a nice kid and she smiles a lot, but shouldn't Iowa do better to fill the shoes of back to back WNBA point guards? But keep applauding yourself.

What the hell are you doing on this board? Stay in the football board where you belong. No need to poison this board too.

You're an idiot. Go away.

To be honest I have zero idea where this "skim Milkey" came from, or what they do or do not know.
Short story is they run a discord server and seem to have a lot of good inside sources. They're correct more often than they aren't. They're linked all the time on the r/ncaaw portal threads.

you should know better with @IowasLaw. Rarely does he post anything positive.
I enjoy some of his points on Iowa FB, but he's a bit overdramatic at times.
I take the good with the bad on his stuff.

Overdramatic is a staple in these parts, just try reading through a men's basketball game thread where we fall behind early, or a narrow win over a preseason football opponent.

Chit Chat put up 15 as a freshman against a Nebraska team that beat us....she's tall enough. She may be the quickest player in the B1G as well. Now where is that ignore button....
