Saw an older article on the Des Moines Register via Twitter about Gable speculating on the success of former Hawk wrestlers if they choose to go into MMA.

I'm opening it up to wrestlers from all schools. Here's my list of guys I think would have done well if they went into MMA after college.

Daniel Dennis - He's known as the Wildman. That nickname alone is enough to get him an MMA contract. He's tough and strong. Reach would be an issue with him, but once he got inside, I think he could do damage with body shots and ground and pound. He'd be in danger against guys with quick strikes like Demetirus Johnson, but I think he'd do better than Cejudo cause he's tougher, stronger, and would brute guys around.

Nathan Tomasello - Kid is built like a s%$! brick house. Plus, I remember seeing a video of him on Flo working on a heavy bag. The kid knows how to throw a punch. He's always quick on his feet. I can see him going in on guys to do damage than quickly moving out.

Mike Evans - He's mean, and he has another extremely marketable nickname, "The Stache" Iowa has no shortage of characters, and characters and personalities matters in MMA. Evans looks like a street brawler to me. Combine that with his wrestling, and you've got a dangerous MMA fighter.

Kyle Dake - "Kid Dynamite" Explosive and quick footed. Like most wrestlers, he'd be susceptible to punches. I like his fighting IQ though. No matter the situation, he's always knows where he's at and what he needs to do. Has guts.

I was with you until Kyle Dake. Just doesn't seem the type.

I know. He doesn't seem mean enough, but the kid wants to win and find ways more often than not. Think his fighting IQ would be his biggest asset.
He would win a lot but wouldn't last long. I picture him as a take you down and lay on you for 5 minutes type of fighter. I can't believe nobody mentioned Frankie. That douche already thinks he's in the UFC.

I'm excited for Pico's debut.

Tomasello's reach would be an issue in striking.

I think Burroughs would be an absolute monster obviously, but he's already going to be plenty set financially with wrestling (eventually coaching) as his career and seems too intelligent to enter the business of brain damage.

Burroughs isn't mean enough. And, like you said, he doesn't need the money.
He's more a Ralph Lauren guy than an Affliction guy

You forgot Tony Ramos. His ability to create a whirlwind media circus in a 5 minute press conference is right up there with Connor McGregor.
Those are always the traits that make a guy good for what ever sport they're in. I've always said even when Ramos wrestled for Iowa that love him or hate him you'll still watch him wrestle because you either want him to win or lose

You don't have to have a mean personality to be a good fighter. Look at GSP - Incredibly respectful, polite, kind person, but he is a great fighter.

Burroughs has the physicality and skillset to be a great fighter. Not everyone can take a punch however, but that's not something you can predict until they actually get into a fight and eat a few fists. Look at Brock Lesnar - he's one of the most physically gifted wrestlers to ever compete, yet he pretty clearly doesn't like getting hit in the face and doesn't respond well to it.

I think it's sad when a kid dedicates a good chunk of his life to the sport of wrestling and then has to resort to MMA to pay the bills. Just a demanding sport, a grind, with very little to zero financial reward.

Why can't they just get a job? I don't get it.

The top MMA athletes make multitudes more than they could make as wrestlers.
