Game plan?

Whoever created this game plan tonight ought to have to walk home..

Not only did they look confused for most of the game they had no answer for anything.. Purdue shot 3's at will , had uncontested lay ups all night , they were out of position all night and that was just at the defensive end. Offensively they couldn't put any of their scorers in position to be effective, had no cohesion and worst of all made zero corrections at halftime .

Appeared to me game plan was to limit Swanigan and Haas, which they did in first half, and force their perimeter guys to make shots. Well, they did.

If Purdue is going to shoot well, it really is a pick-your-poison situation.

No corrections when you are inferior at every position on the floor. Our lack of a PG makes it hard to stop runs because all we do is shoot wild 3's and get swatted down low driving the ball at 7 footers. The pieces don't fit. No true big. No PG. Our best player is a jump shooter with no dribble drive game and you play 3 guys with 0 offense (Wagner, Uhl, and Williams).

Game plan...

Offensively

Be patient work the clock every time down treat each possession like it your last and force Purdue to play defense. You should of expected that Jok would be manned up double teamed so make sure that Jok is patient and works to find the open man.

Defensively

There is some big problems with inside match ups Guard the 3,s use your perimeter quickness to create turnovers and do not help take to many chances to help out inside . Make Purdue work to get points in the paint .

Bottom line is you are going to be more competitive and have a better chance to win when you limit the other team scoring chances.

Iowa did neither, did not guard the three ball, no inside presence ,basically let Purdue do whatever they wanted. The

Iowa did neither, did not guard the three ball, no inside presence ,basically let Purdue do whatever they wanted. The

Iowa tried to limit the bigs in the first half, but PU shot lights out. So 2nd half we had to go to man and that's not a good match-up for Iowa. Especially when our 3 post players are freshman and have zero Big Ten Experience.

Offensively we are very anemic. If Jok is on fire, then it opens everyone else up. PU limited him and forced other players to step up. We didn't have anyone step up and that's why you saw what you saw tonight.

Purdue is the conference favorite and it showed tonight. When their guards are on and play like they did tonight, they will be very tough to beat. It was an experienced group going against a group of freshman. That never turns out good for the young guys. Iowa will learn from this and get better. Purdue will be a tough team as long as their guards can hit shots. If the guards struggle, then it could get interesting. Swans and Haas are tough inside.
