I hope CJ gets back soon. I hope Joe starts playing like we know he can. I think tonight showed that Garza taking shots he doesn't normally take. He missed some he usually makes. But as good as he is he needs to have help, which right now is lacking.

In fairness he got a lot of help. Kreiner, and Pemsl played really well for the most part. BE was pretty good. CMac had one of his best games. Joe T got us off to a good start. This game came down to no CJ again, and Joe W couldn't throw it the ocean. That and we couldn't find away to give Luka a three or four minute blow in the second half.

Guys are playing well outside JW right now. If the bench keeps their current play going with CJ and JW right again, this team is going to be a very tough out

Ryan had 18, Connor had 11 and 7 assists, Bakari had 9, Cordell pulled in 8 boards (and a few big offensive boards). Yea, Wieskamp didn't play great, but to say Garza didn't have any help is a little short-sighted.

I don't understand Wieskamp's game. Ok so the 3 isn't falling...it happens. Get inside the arc and take some mid-range shots, floaters, anything other than jacking 3's or driving into 3 guys trying to scoop it from his waist. The refs aren't going to bail him out but he does it time after time. Hopefully CJ returns soon, but either way, Evelyn, Connor and Joe T need to be more aggressive offensively. All 3 are solid FT shooters but seldom get to the line because they live on the perimeter.

But the mid range shot is the worst in basketball and should never be taken; all the "Moneyballers" say so.o_O

Usually when a defender locks down the teams best player, that player ends up scoring 6 points. Garza still had 20/9 against a tremendous defensive effort. Unfortunately our two main 3-point shooters went 0-10. Just one make changes the situation in the last couple minutes.

Joe is a damn good free throw shooter. Agreed when it's not falling for him from 3, or even when it is, drive your ass in there and take some fouls. He has good hops, attack the rim young man.

Plus he had Winston on him quite a bit (no idea of a %), he should be able to shoot over him at anytime from anywhere.

He usually has a guy glued to him besides the 4 or 5 times a game the d breaks down and leaves him open.

He did shoot a mid range jumper last night.

Taking mid range jumpers isn't going to fix his slump IMO.

He should be taking it to the hole stronger, be intentional about drawing fouls.

Maybe get him some post touches too. The opposing bigs have to follow our bigs to the 3 line which should provide room.

I suppose my point is that he's a scorer, not a pure shooter. He should be looking to get points all over the floor.
Fine to take it to the hole, but also anywhere else he can get free. If he continues to clang from 3, then move in a few steps.

Yeah exactly. It's better to shoot 1-12 from 3 than 5-10 from 2 per the experts. I wasn't great at math, but I would rather have 10 points than 3. One of the many reasons Garza is so damn impressive--he has a mid range game.

To your other post, I think it's a bad example of group think among coaches and players emulating what they see in the NBA. I seldom watch the NBA but caught some of a Bulls game a couple weeks ago. I think it was Will Perdue doing color or some other former Bulls player. He was railing the whole game about guys jacking 3's and nobody taking higher percentage 2's. I guess it's better to miss 3's than make 2;s. Wieskamp is suffering from the lack of another shooter on the floor no doubt, but he has major work to do if he wants to be more than a 3 point shooter.

This team is way beyond moral victories, but last night actually showed me a lot. They need Garza and he's delivered. He also needs a 2nd and most of the season, either CJ or Weezy have stepped up. The Hawks need other options and what I've seen lately is some of the other parts stepping up. If those guys can have some confidence and the Hawks get Weezy back to being Weezy and CJ back healthy, they're going to have a lot of options.

I don't think my opinion was short-sighted. Look how many shots Garza took. I think he has put an a large feeling of responsibility of having to score more than what he should feel. If he doesn't continue to be the only consistent scorer who is going to pick up the scoring?

Hes been a pretty pure shooter until recently but I agree he can do more.

But the thing is the only open shots he gets are a few wide open ones a game off of rebounds or mix ups.

If you're wide open from 3 you have to take it.

I just don't see a way for him to consistently get good mid range looks because hes rarely able to get seperation.

Garzas mid rang shots all come off post ups where he reverse pivots and the guy guard him gives him to much space because bigs aren't used to defending a guy who can shoot.

Weiskamp is never going to get that space

Joe is in a tough spot right now. He has the other teams best defender dedicated to taking away his jumper and a bunch of helpers willing to leave their men open.

Plus no penetration from the pg spot to make the defense move.

Not to pile on, but I wonder if Wieskamp's slump coupled with Fredrick's injury aren't diminishing Garza's chances to be National POY.

Garza loves shooting. Taking allot of shots is not some sort of a burden to him. Hed shoot every time down court if he could.

Hes had to play to many minutes recently but this team will be fine once CJ is back.
