If Garza doesnt win the POY, it will be a travesty for college basketball. It was ludicrous he didn’t win it last year. He epitomizes what college basketball is all about. He was not highly recruited...had limited skills coming in. He developed a tremendous work ethic and put in thousands of hours bettering his shot and footwork, among other skills. He NEVER takes a possession off. He has put up incredible numbers again in the toughest conference in the country (in a conference top loaded with big men). I just don’t get it...he should be a slam dunk for POY. To not reward a young man with his character, morals, love and passion for the game, work ethic, etc., etc. would be a crime.

I read this morning that when Luka won B1G POW last week it was his third time this year and FIFTH TIME overall. Can this be true? That would mean all those weeks last season that he was consistently putting up huge numbers and even toward the end of his sophomore year when he was damn good, that he only won POW twice? Was he just being taken for granted and overlooked? I thought it would have been more like Megan Gustafson who seemed to win the award every week. Guess not.

The BIG POW tends to get spread around so that everybody gets at least a taste...

He should have won it last year. He also should win it this year. I think he'll get it to make up for last year and the fact that he's now the alltime leading scorer for Iowa.

yep. If it's at all close and a guy who hasn't been POTW before is up for nomination, the guy who hasn't won yet will get picked.

Seems like too many basketball analysts like to mix things up with the flavor of the week picks....Garza seems to be old news for some of them. And for those analysts that only compare stats doesn't do Garza justice. Garza is probably the only candidate that entire team's defenses are planned on stopping via double and triple teams.

Given that and Garza's all around play....offensively he scores from anywhere and he plays hard entire game....it's too obvious that he should be the POW.

Honestly your statement that he wasn't highly recruited simply isn't factual. Iowa got in on him early because Fran saw him in AAU tournaments when CMac was playing, I believe as a high school freshman but Luka had blown up by his senior year and he had a lot of very good offers, and was a top 100 player, but he stuck with Iowa because of the relationship he had built with Fran. When Luka committed to Iowa he had 28 confirmed offers including most of the BIG teams, as well as Louisville, Georgia, Notre Dame, and Georgetown amoungst numerous others......He also was not limited skill wise, just athletically.....

Although others disagree with me, and that’s perfectly fine, I think Luka wrapped up NPOY quite a while back. Vegas agrees with me. There’s great value on other players, including this site’s favorite player Ayo, if you disagree.
