Gavin Newsom splits with Democrats on transgender athletes, calling it "deeply unfair"

I wish Biden wouldn't have opened the can of worms that is the debate over the rules of sex and gender at the federal level. It was clear that the next Repub admin was just going to attempt to undue them, and perhaps take us in an even more extreme direction where government intervention is concerned.

This stuff should've been left to states/local. Would've worked itself out. (most major sporting organizations have already figured out no post puberty males in women's athletics)

Really not favoring federal solutions to most of our culture war issues.

Memory-hole it all you want but this was a wedge issue that was almost exclusively pushed and promoted by cultural conservatives(to great success). Pretending that Biden started this(eerily similar to the non-existent Biden rule in the Senate) is as smart as referencing a Chicago mayor that was rejected by her constituency as a consequential voice in politics.

While I agree with Newsome that Trans athletes in women's sports is unfair I hope he doesn't become the nominee.

Dems from dark blue states like CA have a poor record when running for president. Mostly because they have spent their entire career trying to out liberal everyone else to win the Dem primary and therefore the election.

It becomes very hard for them to turn around appear like a moderate.

Obama managed to pull it off because he didn't have a long political career beforehand. Plus his natural charisma could help cover for him.

Wasn't saying that Biden caused this; was complaining that he took (IIRC) a bunch of executive actions that were destined to be undone. In general, was complaining that a lot of this stuff pertaining to gender shouldn't have been addressed at the federal level to begin with.

Gavin Newsome is a classic FOS limousine liberal trying to rebrand himself as a moderate in time for a presidential run.

He needs to step back and make room for an authentic moderate who doesn't have decades of baggage weighing on him.

Am I misjudging him? Maybe he is making a legit career change? If so, good for him.
