Whiskey, once upon a time, one of my firm's partners was a guy who was a lawyer turned real estate developer who more or less controlled real estate development in northern virginia. (Went to his place once in fauquier county - is was sort of like mt vernon, except a little nicer and with more land.) So as he was getting long in the tooth, one year they asked him, and another of his peers who controlled much of the real estate development across the river in DC, to get up and do a little bit of war story keynote riffing at one of our meetings. So they get up there, and they started in with the "oh man that tysons project you did is such a beautiful property" schtick, on and on, back and forth, and it dawned on me. These guys actually believe that real estate development is the highest expression of the human spirit. Which is kind of frightening.
