Gazette's Morehouse says Iowa fans should EXPECT ....

Iowa to win at least one B1G West Division championship over the next three years.
We talk state of the program, likely bowl destination and what the hell is wrong with Nebraska in this week's 12 Saturday's podcast.

I've posted as much. While this year was frustrating at time, it was made more bearable when I reviewed the number of freshmen and red shirt freshmen getting meaning downs played. At Iowa, always a very misleading number as most only ever see special teams. Not this season though.

Off point, Morehouse is much wiser than Hlas, who is still living off of when he had a T25 vote.

Based on talent or does he mean Iowa should contend every three years?

He thinks the program is on the upswing with all the young guys who are contributing.

He did say on the podcast something like "kind of expect", not flat out expecting a title game appearance.

The University of Iowa administration and the fans of said institution, have set the bar at 7 and 5. That is the expected outcome for our football team, how else does he remain at Iowa? My expectations have not been lowered, they are the same as almost every year. I can hope for more, but expect, not so much. I get really torn on KF. He runs a clean program, he recruits good kids from Iowa and beyond, those things I love. He makes some game decisions that I question, he seems to settle too much for my taste and I think his idea that Iowa Football is his family business bothers me too. Thanks for making me spell it out, I feel better.

Not sure if we beat Wisconsin in the next three years but we could win the West just because we play a easier schedule. Next year we have @ PSU from the East Wisconsin has @ Michigan and @ PSU. In 2019 We have @ Michigan and PSU at home. Wisconsin has Michigan and Michigan St at home and @ Ohio St.

I also wouldn't count out Nebraska. Firing Riley was a bad thing for Iowa. If they can actually get a coach that can coach all their talent that game will be back to a 50/50 game for Iowa.

We should be in the hunt for sure.

Young team coupled with a more forgivable schedule.

Big keys will be LB, WR, punter positions.

Always reassuring to know we'll only really be competitive with a soft schedule.
We were really competitive this year with a schedule from hell (5 games on the road against our biggest rivals+OSU and PSU at home). Lost on the last play to the 3rd ranked team=competitive. Smoked OSU=competitive. Lost to the 21st ranked team on the road in OT=competitive. Lost to the 16th ranked team on the road by a TD=competitive. Beat a team that beat OU and TCU=competitive. Won 3 of our 4 trophy games=competitive. Yes, it was a year of 'what could have been', but to say we weren't competitive against arguably the toughest schedule in the B1G is just wrong.

I'm not sold on Nebraska, until they fix their problems in the trenches, and I doubt that gets fixed in a matter of months. I'm also not sold that they have more talent then Iowa. I wouldn't trade Stanley, IKM, Young, Bryan, Geil, Fant, or Hock for anyone they have. If a couple of our WR's come through, I'd say were at least as good as them at the skill positions, and definetly better in the trenches. 96-24 and counting........

Ya, good post, when you factor in SOS of B!G west, and Iowa only plays OSU, PSU, Michigan, MSU 50% of time, 7-5 bar does seem a tad low.

I think that there are two essential questions for 2018: (1) How quickly do the replacement linebackers adjust to starting, and (2) How much better are we at WR?

In a developmental program like Iowa, you will always have a position group that is relatively younger/less experienced than the others. LB is that position for 2018. Otherwise, we are relatively experienced.

If LB and WR are ahead of schedule next year, Iowa will be very good.

Over the past 20 years, Kirk has won more than 8 games, wait for it, 5 times. Not sure who's expectations have been lowered.

Fair enough, but you have to share other side of coin. In 20 years, years with wins below 7, wait for it....5 times....AND that includes his first two bare cupboard years. In last TEN Years only ONE time have we won less than 7 games. Just saying.

4 home games to start next year. With that 4th game being Wisconsin. Badgers late September. Damn well better be a night game. Toughest road games probably Penn State and Purdue. Next year should be close. 2019 is a tough tough schedule with the road games we have. If gonna do we need to do next year.

Was referring to winning the West and having a 9 or 10 game plus winning record. Sorry if that wasn't clear. Yeah we may compete periodically through the year game to game but we're never really much of a threat in the West unless our crossover schedule is "favorable".

Actually, its 6.(2002, 2003, 2004, 2008, 2009, 2015) Season won AT LEAST 8 games 9.

Probably need to give KF 2 years to turn around Iowa after the cupboards were bare. 6-17 (note KF is in year 19 not 20) is better than 1 out of 3 years you win 9 or more games??? I think 90% of d1 teams would sign up for that don’t you think?

I just wanted to address this. Nothing. Absolutely nothing is wrong with Nebraska. They are perfect just the way they are. This year. They should stay the same.
