Geno Stone Now with 7 INTs for the Season

Correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t Hooker, Stone, and Belton all our last 3 cash guys? All under recruited guys now balling out in the NFL. And Castro will be next. It’s incredible honestly.
Stone didn't play cash ... he was a strong safety for us.

Amani Hooker played initially SS for us in '17 ... but then Phil fully implemented the cash-based D in '18. Hooker then left after the '18 season.

Then, in '19, DJ Johnson started off being the guy listed as our top guy at CASH ... but he bungled it so bad ... that Phil had us temporarily revert to our LEO-based 4-3 until Belton got his feet under him. As the '19 season unfolded, Belton allowed for Phil to feature the CASH-based D once again.

We then had Belton from '19 to '21.

Then, in '22, DeJean was the guy slated to take over the CASH spot. However, due to the fact Iowa's CB depth was depleted due to injuries ... with Harris out for the season, with Deasfernandes plagued with injury, and with Roberts first getting injured and then letting his attitude get in the way - we absolutely needed DeJean to exclusively play CB for us. Consequently, that opened up the opportunity for Castro to earn snaps at CASH.

While, there still have been some occasional lapses ... the truth of the matter is that Castro just keeps on getting better through each game. Earlier in the season ... he was getting picked on a little bit in coverage. However, usually that is a function of opposing Os doing a good job of creating personnel mismatches.

If you go back to the Penn State game ... they made most of their hay exploiting the relative inexperience of Jackson (newness within our scheme) and Nwankpa (first year as a regular starter ... as a TR SO).

In 8 games, Geno has gone from a former 7th rounder / cut / back up player into a huge playmaker on a top defense. He has a big-time payday coming his way this offseason. Pretty cool to see him blowing up this year at the most perfect timing career-wise.

This is Geno's 4th NFL season. His career earnings after this season is complete will total $4,112,864

Not bad for a 2 star prospect out of high school.

My guesstimation: he’s probably already secured a $6-8 mil for 3-5 years contract this offseason, and if he finishes strong it only goes up from there.

It would be really awesome to see him break the Ravens INT season record (9) set by Ed Reed, but that’s a tall order.

I Am a poor vikings fan and have to admit Baltimore is fun to watch with good D and Jackson staying healthy playing at a mvp level.

The above list got cut off. Here it is:

Geno Stone's journey to the NFL:

* 21st safety taken in 2020 draft (7th round)

* Waived twice by Ravens his rookie season

* Claimed off waivers by Texans

* Signed back to Ravens in 2021 after Houston didn't extend him a qualifying offer

* Named starting FS in Week 6 of 2022 after Marcus Williams went on IR

* Signed another 1-year deal in 2023

* Finished 2nd in the NFL in INTs (7) this year
