I know this is a Hawkeye board and we are all happy for that kind of domination but it's simply bad for the sport and the state of Iowa when the Cyclones are this bad. There is zero excuse for ISU to be this noncompetitive on the mat.

Personally I'd throw up in my mouth a little bit every time I'd see my friend Drew dressed in ketchup and mustard but he can recruit (at a not fully funded school with about as high as admission standards as it gets) and develop talent:
24 NCAA All-Americans since 2005
4 NCAA Champions and 8 NCAA Finalists
9 Top 15 NCAA Team Finishes since 2005
4 Junior and Cadet World Team Members since 2010
10 Big Ten Champions
2015 - Coached only the 3rd 4X NCAA All-American in School History (Mike McMullan) 3rd, 2nd, 3rd, 3rd
2014 and 2012 – 9th in the NCAA as a team
2014 Big Ten Wrestler of the Year – Jason Tsirtsis
2014 Big Ten Freshman of the Year – Jason Tsirtsis
2014 Intermat National Freshman of the Year – Jason Tsirtsis
2012 Olympian – Jake Herbert
2011 AWN National Rookie Head Coach of the Year
2011 Tied a school record 18 dual meet wins, against only 2 defeats
2011 Lead the US Cadet Pan Am Team as the Head F/S Coach: http://intermatwrestle.com/articles/8792
2011 Tied a school record 18 dual meet wins in 2011
2009 Dan Hodge Trophy Winner – Jake Herbert
2009 BIG Ten Athlete of the Year (Jesse Owens Award) – Jake Herbert
2009 Intermat Wrestler of the Year – Jake Herbert
2009 World Silver Medalist – Jake Herbert
2009 Coached only the 2nd 4X NCAA All-American in School History (Jake Herbert) 3rd, 2nd, 1st, 1st
2008 NWCA National Assistant Coach of the Year
2007 – 4th in the NCAA as a team
57 NCAA Qualifiers since 2005
#1, #2, #6, #9 and #7 recruiting classes since 2005 (pending on which recruiting service you prefer/advocate)

Give Pariano a fully funded 9.9, state school, with history and a club that cares about the program and wants to restore it, and he's going to have the cupboard loaded quickly.

It certainly doesn't appear Pollard cares about wrestling results so I'm sure this won't happen, and I'm sure KJ is a heck of a guy but, as a team, they have not improved since he's been there. Some individuals have, but as a whole that program is a mess and a change needs to happen. I was at work today when I realized today was the dual and I honestly didn't care. I knew Iowa would win, and win big, and that I'd be able to get the results later. That should NEVER be the case in this battle.

Iowa State fires Paul Rhoads and keeps Kevin Jackson. How much sense does this make? Absolutely none. It truly equates to this---"Wrestling is not important at Iowa State." If wrestling was important, Jamie Pollard would be on the phone right now. The Iowa State performance today was down right "embarrassing." Wonder what excuses buf87 has for his Head Coach and their dismal effort today. Iowa State WILL NOT finish inside the top 20 and will be hard pressed to secure ONE (1) All-American. Earl Hall the Cyclones bleakest shot for AA status. Nice work Hawks. Nothing more gratifying than the result inside Hilton today.

ISU's problem will be that KJ has a good class coming, so KJ will rally around that hoping that will keep his job. If history repeats itself he will have overpaid for it, and be strapped for the coming years. It will boil down to if he can develop the class, and based on history we know what that will mean. Cael is even promoting ISU's incoming class. Reminds me of Jimmy getting BIg 10 coach of the year his last year.

It'd be by far the smartest thing Pollard ever did.

I find the situation to be rather bizarre. President Leath is said to be a big fan of the sport but he keeps letting Pollard sign KJ to extensions.

What's truly said is the number of ISU fans who have set their sights so low that they are totally accepting of the awful finishes year after year. This will be their 6th straight year outside the top 10. And that's apparently totally OK.

Imagine the size of crowd we could get at Kinnick if ISU could work their program into a top 5 team again and have them come to town.

Not too many schools can boost that they have an Olympic Gold medalist. ISU is a good academic school too. You'd think that'd be a winning combo to lure top talent to ISU. As far as development goes, ISU had the only national champion in Iowa in Gadson last year and he wasn't even a top 50 overall recruit coming out of HS.
I hope ISU comes back with or without KJ, doesn't matter to me.
Recruiting is a whole other skill set from actual coaching, and we all know how important that is. Maybe ISU needs a guy that can recruit better than they can coach. I dare say that these days with the high caliber high school kids who are even more college ready when they step onto campus, a good recruiter coach is all you need to look like a good wrestling head coach.

You sound like an ISU fan. "We had a national champion!" Whoopdeedo. How did the other 35 guys on your team fare?

Chairs at ASU had an NCAA champ, too. They should have kept him instead of bringing in Zeke.

Did you even read my whole post or just stop after the Gadson bit?
I don't care if KJ stays or goes. I want ISU to be a top ten contending team again for the sake of the rivalry to mean something again.
Obviously Zeke was the right choice for ASU since he's drawn in monster recruits. Good recruiter coach maybe is greater than a good wrestling room coach.

Screw ISU, less competition for the lesser amount of top notch in state guys the better for us.

except it will hurt the amount of top talent instate guys. The better the programs are in state, the more excitement around wrestling, the better. Historically that is a supported argument. The best years for Iowa High School talent were when Iowa and ISU were neck and neck battling and it grows from there. What's good for the sport is good for all teams.

Agreed 100%.

One could subjectively argue that the downturn in elite Iowa high school kids is pretty much in line with the continued lack of success at ISU since KJ arrived. Once Cael's recruits were gone... we saw what Jackson produced.
