2025 Hawkeyes' Expected All-Americans

All the guys you mentioned AAd comfortability in their senior year.

Marinelli 5th-
Kemerer 4th
Woods 4th
Warner 5th
Cass 4th
Lee 6th- We know what happened

Based on this trend, it’s looking good that Parco will AA
True. Now, reasons aside, which looked better their last year compared to their next-to-last?

Hope you’re right brother!!
I liked this kid coming out of highschool. Coaches raved about his work ethic. Everything I have heard leads me to believe positive things are to come.

Also for those concerned about the weight cut…can I remind you fellas that Matt Mcdonough (sp?) wrestled 141 his true fresh year. Weight cuts are common from freshman year to rs freshman year. Also, not many people are making 125 comfortably anymore.

Lugo was 2 years out of high school when he transferred to Iowa. Silly, silly comparison. Nobody transfers with the intention to get worse.

It has less to do with where Parco is now than how long he's been in school. I would have the same regression and/or injury concerns for him at ASU. It's a long time to compete in college. We see it all the time now.

I think he places, but regression or injury is a real possibility. Same goes for Teemer. And Nelson. Just to use the last couple years of hawks as an example, Spencer, Woods, Marinelli, Kemerer, Cass, and Warner all finished their careers on the downslope compared to previous years, whether it was injury, general wear and tear, or burnout.
You have fair points, but my comparison is only silly if you dont have enough knowledge of the sport to look outside the lines.

hawktu that's a pretty telling thing to call yourself. it's the girl who spits on something or other to stick it somewhere

I did blow up a bit at the end of the post.

Honestly though what other hawk do you think has a harder path to AA? Of the ones that are penciled in to AA.

Well Brands having a great tourney at 174 two years ago moving back up to 184 (presumably) where he really didn't have anything particularly impressive to show for it would seem to be a far longer shot than a guy that has already done it four out of four. Sure he could get hurt like Eierman and miss the podium in his final try, but nothing on the mat itself should stop him from getting there.

Great point, Brands is right there with him too.

6+ year guys often regress. We've seen a ton of it with the covid years. I think he places, but wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't. First year in a much deeper conference + 6 years of D1 wrestling might mean he's pretty worn down by tournament time. All it takes is a couple bad matches.
How many of those were 3 or 4 time AA's that had AA'd every year they wrestled the NCAA Tournament? I get that some 6th years fall back due to a host of issues. But, there ARE guys like Amine, Fix or even Ashnault(who was absolutely incredible his 6th season) where they were ALWAYS reliable in March.

Look, I am not arguing regression over the entire NCAA. I am arguing using it to measure a guy that is 4 for 4. Ignoring that simply makes no sense to me, whatsoever. The guy is PROVEN. He didn't have to come back for another year. He had already done the norm and wrestled 4 NCAA's, joining a pretty elite club of 4x AA's. The fact he was going to do it even before Iowa offered him the money makes me highly doubt any regression due to attrition is going to occur in this case...

That's a perfectly rational prediction. I'm just saying it's not insane to predict he regresses. We've seen it before, even at the vaunted PSU. It's something to watch for with an old team. Personally, I think it's very likely at least one of the older guys (Parco, Teemer, Brands, Buchanon) has a "down" year compared to past performance.

I think Teemer has the highest likelihood of the three, his style is very risky. Just like franek was for us last year, everything will be close but Teemer’s funky style will be a lot more fun to watch.

I am thinking Brands has a fantastic year. If I'm remembering correctly, didn't he start wrestling in 8th grade or something like that? He seems like a free-spirited kid who just loves wrestling. He's had a year off and I think that is adding a whole other driving force to him. I think he's going to break people this year.

I want him to reenact the old video of Tom/Terry wrestling ISU and getting in their face after he pins them and they're lying on their back. That would be awesome.

I'd put my money on Teemer too. He's had a serious injury in the past, so that's something to watch.

Agreed. On top of that how hungry is someone competing for the money? Let alone money already on the account.

I expect Brands to be a different animal. Think he will be nails this year with a lot of anger taken out on his opponents and a leader of the old guard.

yea the whole is he coming or isn't he,makes me leary on teemer.serious talent but is he all in.

How is it different than when professional athletes get paid? Do they just stop having any motivation? Most of the time the answer is no.

MMMMMMM, I'll give you 50/50. Why do so many people like college sports over pro, "you can see the heart in college athletes, the pros got their pay check and lost the heart they had."

College athletics is nearly identical to professional sports in that way and will continue to get closer as time goes by. Especially in the revenue sports.
