97 team had 3XAA Mena at 126, 2XAA Ironside (who was unbeaten on the year and ranked 1st), McIlravy back, 2X Champ and Runner-up, Williams a returning Champ and 2XAA, a 4th placer returning in Fulhart, and a returning AA in Mike Uker. Whitmer was ranked to place and he just exceeded his seed, and Kasey Gillis, well he has a headlock and wrestled a great tournament.

That is 6 AA's returning including 2 Champs and 3 others who had placed 4th or better.

This year, we have Clark that made the finals last year, two guys who placed 4th and another who placed 7th.

How is this team like the 97 team?

Without getting too far off the path... in 1997, Okie State was the fav at Nationals coming in. The performances of guys like Whitmer and Ersland ignited that team.

The 97 team wasn't the 97 team until they kicked ass at nationals. It's what made them special. Read A Season on the Mat...The team struggled and even Gable had his doubts. Okie State was the odds on favorite.
