gold star mom says that Biden has NEVER reached out to her

does the president typically contact the family of every fallen service member?
Totally different topic, but when my grandfather died from old age the family received a letter signed by the President (Nixon) thanking him for his service when he was younger. I assumed it was something every veteran's family received after their loved one's passing. When my dad died in 2020, I thought it would be ironic that his thank you letter would be signed by Trump whom he hated. However, we never got a letter. Does anyone know if the letter for my grandpa was just a fluke or if veterans all received a thank you letter for a time and then the tradition was stopped?

Well we know that Trump didn’t go out of his way to honor fallen veterans unfortunately so I have to admit I don’t think it was an accident.

Well, one President signed two bills into law that expanded Veterans benefits. The other President made fun of POW's, and called veterans losers and suckers. As for the validity of the letter from Nixon, I couldn't tell you but he seemed to take care of Veterans during his time in office. I wouldn't be surprised if Nixon sent your grandfather a letter but I would be absolutely shocked if Trump sent your father a letter.

My Korean War veteran grandpa died in 2019. No letter from Trump.

Who can I talk to about getting on TV?

Biden would make it about himself and talk about how his non druggie son died in Iraq.
Yes, died sitting behind a desk prosecuting combat Marines for being a little over zealous under fire for which he received a Bronze Star. Phucker probably died of long term effects of shame!

My dad served during the Korean War as well, but not in country. He spent most of his time at an air force outpost in Alaska monitoring radar probably watching for Russians. He said he didn't go outside for a year because all the buildings were connected. For a farmer from Iowa not being outside probably drove him crazy.

No real veteran talks like that or disparages another’s service specialty. None that I know anyways.
Do tell, mama's boy? Never ever saw a movie where the grunts are talking shit about the office pogues, dudes in the rear with the beer, and other rear-echelon or support people? Do you know what a REMF is? That didn't come to be because the combat echelon loves cooks.....but you continue to spin your alternate reality, you never been.......

I did a little digging and found out that your grandpa & my dad were eligible for a Presidential Memorial Certificate, but apparently you have might have to apply for them now. I'm sure my grandma never applied for grandpa's letter so that must have changed. It's not a big deal to me to get one (especially with Trump's signature), I just wanted to know if the tradition changed.

Presidential Memorial Certificates

A Presidential Memorial Certificate (PMC) is a gold-embossed paper certificate bearing the official signature of the President of the United States. It honors the memory of a deceased Veteran and expresses the country's grateful recognition of his or her service in the Armed Forces.

This program was initiated in March 1962 by President John F. Kennedy and has been continued by each subsequent President. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) administers the PMC program through the National Cemetery Administration.

I wouldn't really expect Biden to seek out extended family such as a MIL.

Hopefully Joe didn't lead off with his "I know how you feel, I lost my son in Iraq".

Looks like the opportunity to meet with Biden was there for the family members.

DOVER, Del. — President Biden on Sunday paid his respects to the 13 Americans killed in last week's suicide bombing in Afghanistan as his military leaders tried to avert more carnage in the final days of a chaotic withdrawal from the country, carrying out a strike on a vehicle in Kabul that officials said posed a terrorist threat.

Biden flew to an Air Force base here to receive the fallen service members, whose remains were returned to the United States on Sunday morning. He first met privately with their family members, including some who have expressed anger at him, and then watched quietly as flag-draped cases transporting the bodies were carried off a plane — a somber moment during the most volatile crisis of his presidency.

I remember that. He looked at his watch as the fallen were passing.
