Good game

That was an outstanding game that both teams deserved to win (if there is such a thing).

You for sure will be dancing. Well done.

Many of us Hawk fans were more worried about this game than MD, MI (both proven to be true), and WI (remains to be seen) in Iowa City.

Thanks for the kind thoughts. RU is for real and could finish ahead of us yet this year. Both teams should be fantastic next year. We lose two backups and get Bohanan, Nunge, and hopefully P Mac back, plus 5 freshman.

We know you’re starting 4 Sophs and we know they’ll be better. Both teams play hard and seem to have good chemistry. There should be great games in our futures.

Garza is like the Terminator - relentless and unstoppable. Glad we don’t play you guys again.

I was also very impressed by Toussaint. Kid is quick like a cat, and he makes really good decisions. Seems like you have a great PG for the next 3 years.

Good luck going forward. If you keep playing this way, you’re a lock for a top 4 finish in the B1G and the double bye.

For you RU fans the future is very bright....really good coach. Young team with depth that we don't have this year....a big deal for the B10 grind.

That game was gut wrenching...scared the crap out of me as it was one our Hawks had to have. Now you guys go beat the crap out of Maryland and MSU...etc. and hopefully we don't run into you again this year.

To state the obvious, you guys are in that to tier discussion as well.

It’s not obvious to us Rutgers fans, as we are conditioned to believe that Lucy is going to pull the football away at the last second.

We’re hoping this time she just leaves it on the ground and we blast it straight through the proverbial uprights (on our way to the NCAA tournament).

How did Garza improve this much? Did you guys see this coming?

Watch out if Toussant can match this effort the rest of the way. He adds much needed speed and athleticism.

I think Iowa could easily go on a elite 8 type
run with the right match ups.

I think RU still has some growing pains the rest of the way, but obviously headed in right direction.

Was at the game and very impressed with Rutgers. Disappointed many fans on their board felt the officials cost them the game.

Props to the Rutgers fans (best fans in the East) and their comments here, much appreciated. I knew going into this 3 game home stretch that Rutgers would probably be our biggest challenge to defend our home court against. Helluva game, glad I was there in person. I’ve got a soft spot for Jersey, my longtime roommate and one of my best friends is from Belleville. I hope to make it to the RAC some day. Rutgers has a very capable and deep, youthful squad. Don’t want to meet them in March, thank you very much. Rutgers fans have to be happy with what they have right now.

I'd be stunned if RU isn't in the upper echelon of the B1G (say top 6 or so) and in the Big Dance this year.

GAME!!

The refs didn’t cost anyone the game. Y’all just flat-out won.

Garza is hands-down B1G POY.

Defense is supposed to travel....but didn’t and credit to your team for dictating the tone.

I’ll admit I was hoping for JY’s finger roll to tie it up because it would’ve been great to see an OT game!

Anyway, I’ll stand by one of my posts in the past when I said yours is an athletic department for us to model after. Classy.

Good luck the rest of the way and looking forward to more classics in the future!

work ethic like no other!

Had a 9 pound cyst removed last year, hurts anyones progress. He sure made up for it though!

RU fan here. Really good game tonight. In a battle of best offense versus best defense, your guys dictated pace and I think that was the difference. Garza is a beast, your guards are quick, and does Weiskampf (sp?) ever miss a 3? We don’t go away, but it just wasn’t enough tonight.
Our guards are quick?

What the hell is going on? ;)

Short answer is very few saw anything near what he's done this season coming. Many expected a step forward, but probably more in the 14pts, 6-8 rebounds range (not that there would be anything wrong with that production).

There were rumblings that he had worked to fill his arsenal, and that even in the nonconference portion of the schedule he was holding moves back. Clearly, those inside the program saw what was coming, but for fans I think this is a very pleasant surprise.

Elite coaching by Fran.

He deserves a raise, extension and a larger buyout. Also know as the RELB.

If he could recruit like George Raveling, Barta should lock him up for life.

Seriously, though, Fran does an amazing job of getting the most out of the talent he brings in. It wouldn't surprise me if sooner than later he wins a few more recruiting battles and Iowa becomes a top tier team in the B1G Ten.

when he's forced to an 8 man rotation, i think he really shows how good of a coach he is.

what worries me is next year. we have 15 on scholarship and have to get to 13. and how many will he want to play? 10 or 11, like he's done in the past?

You ****ing Rutgers fans are making it really hard to dislike your programs. You guys act with class even after a tough loss. Kudos to you. I reckon that will likely change as both your football and basketball programs are going to be starting to expect to win as opposed to hoping to win very soon. Amazing what expectations will do for a fan base. Anyway. Have enjoyed having you n this board. I will be pulling for you rest of the year.

Now, gfy Rutgers fans.

Excellent point.

I think he will stick with an eight or nine man rotation. One of the early criticisms of Fran was that he didn't call timeout enough and defaulted too much to trying to let his team play through it. That has changed.

So, I would be surprised if he goes back to hockey line substitutions next year. And since it is unlikely anyone will transfer or leave early after this year, I'm guessing quite a few of the incoming freshmen will redshirt.

Simply a lot of hard work for Garza. The addition of CJ Fredrick this season was also an added bonus for the a Hawks.

I knew Luka was going to improve but not like this. Toussaint's is everything you said but he has played like a Freshman in many games. We love this team with all the adversity they've had to face. Rutgers is for real and I live your coach.

Liked your coach in the post game. Professional, humble ... just seemed like a nice guy.

Pike is the definition of nice guy.
It was a great game. Garza is a beast.
We're a young team that is definitely going places unless, as stated above, Lucy decides to pull the rug out.

Thanks for the kind words. I think until RU is consistently winning we should remain a little humble.
And really, how do you not root for this?

First time I've truly watched Rutgers all season. Very tough team and I think the home court was the deciding factor. Impressed with the demeanor of the Rutgers coach .... as well as the players. Just seem like a heads-down, hard-working coach and team ...

Enjoy every second of this season Rutgers fans. Can get easy to get worked up about tournament seeding and what not but games like last night are a blast. Enjoy the journey, the program has officially turned.

Your boys are salty as hell and EXACTLY the type of team I hate playing and your coach is pure class. Congrats on a great season to date, I have been keeping an eye on these guys all year. You guys are on a serious upswing and the NCAA Tourney looks like a lock. Enjoy the ride.

I sure didn't see it coming. I thought his lack of athleticism would be a hindering factor. That said, what he did do was get more muscular which is helping him get position, take contact and get shots up. A modest improvement in athleticism has helped him get up the floor better, move around the basket and rebound. He has a pretty soft touch for a big man.

How anyone had Rutgers picked 12th in the league (heard that little gem during the broadcast last night) is beyond me. I realize they lost some, but even young last year that team was good, and they are. They chirped a bit here and there--no more than our boys--but they played hard and let their games do the talking from what I could tell.
Really like their coach and think they are going to be good for a while.
The comment on Joe T--he's shown that at many times this year, but I would say this is perhaps the game where he's put it "together" the most for 40 minutes. He's had some freshman moments that have cut his time down in some games, but when he's good, he's a joy to watch.
I think if anyone here says that we expected this big of a jump from last year to this year for Luka, they're lying. He still occasionally has a moment where he looks like he's falling out of a tree yet somehow the ball goes in, but it's an amazing growth year-over-year.
This group--with the injuries and Patrick's situation--seems to all know exactly what they're supposed to do (role to play), have embraced that thought, and settled in. From Garza and Weezy to Pemsl, they all play a pretty big part. Pemsl can be maddening, but his minutes and rebounds are key. It's just a lot of fun to watch and from where we all thought this team would be 40-50 days ago.....we're almost being spoiled.
