Hoping Easybaykid or some Stanford fan can link to one of the more popular Stanford free message boards. I'd like to hear more about what they think of us and what their take is on the game.
Good luck in Pasedena and I hope we both play injury free.

Stanford fans seem awfully cocky. They are calling us a one year wonder, and that is going to be a big mistake on their part. Stanford has improved, but Stanford is forgetting where they came from. I'm going to have to sign up and explain to them the error of their ways.

Not sure how active these boards are... their premium forum on the Scout- Bootleg site seems to be but I cant read the content.

They shouldn't underestimate Iowa but they have been to the following major bowl games since 2010: Orange Bowl, Fiesta, Rose, Rose, Rose

This is a program that has been in the national title hunt since 2010 and played in some pretty big games. I like Iowa's chances though

That is pretty impressive, no doubt, but they are underestimating who they are going up against. They are aware of how easily we handled NW correct?

Check out the independent CARDboard.

The CARDboard folks are pretty reasonable. If you like being yelled at in capital letters, try the free Stanford board on Scout.

I read through a little, and they certainly think highly of themselves. For how they've competed the past few seasons though, why wouldn't they? I'd wager that we'd be the same way if we'd been to 5 BCS level games in the past 6 years.

The chip on their shoulder for east coast bias is probably warranted though. I think of Stanford as a good program, but not elite. However, to me, when you go to 5 BCS level bowl games in 6 seasons, that's elite, even if you've never played for a title.

Can't wait for the Rose Bowl. Let it be decided on the field.

They're good for sure and I've wanted to see how Iowa would match up with them for a few years now. Being that both programs are so similar.

The Cardboard is the place to go (the Bootleg premium board is good too, but behind a paywall).

I think Stanford fans like our team and are pretty confident for the Rose Bowl based on the spread and computer ratings like Sagarin (http://sagarin.com/sports/cfsend.htm, which predicts Stanford to win by 5). But I hope we are polite in person and online. The guys on the Bootleg open board are a bad example!

Personally, I think the Rose Bowl will be a close game, like our last two Rose Bowls against Wisconsin and Michigan State. I see Iowa to be similar in strength to Notre Dame and Oregon (when their QB was healthy), both of which were decided on the last play.

Gifting Iowa a birth in the Rose Bowl was the committee's way of giving Kirk Ferentz a lifetime achievement award. Could Iowa beat Ohio State? Of course. Which team is better? Ohio State. So why would Iowa be ranked ahead of Ohio State? Because the committee is composed of a bunch of people who respect what Kirk Ferentz has done in 15 years at Iowa, and this year, and feels like he should be rewarded.

I was at the end of the year banquet for the football team when Iowa was announced as the opponent...I couldn't say people were happy. In fact, I would say that the excitement was sucked out of the room.

The player I was seated next too said he had no clue about Iowa and was clearly disappointed that he would not have the chance to prove himself against the players of Ohio State. The player on the opposite side of the table felt the same.

I saw that too, and hope every bit of it's true.

I don't see why they complain about a bias. The media was trying every conceivable way to throw away that Northwestern loss and get themselves ahead of unbeaten teams in late October-early November. There was even mention they would get in with 2 losses if Clemson or Alabama lost. Seems they aren't too excited playing Iowa which is good, more tickets for us.

Great. Good luck stopping our ground game with that 44th best rush D.

Here is a quote from their board. Bulletin board for Doyle.

If we were playing OSU I'd feel like I did before ND, that it would be a close, tight game that could go either way. Playing Iowa I feel like I did before the CCG, we should beat them and we should beat them handily.

Yep, Iowa is confident and self-assured - Stanford is cocky. Stanford complains about East coast bias, Iowa complains about bias everywhere. The two fan bases are completely different.

If I were Stanford, I would prefer to play OSU too. That simply means they have more respect for the OSU program than the Iowa program - and that respect is well-deserved.

Iowa can't be good every 5 years and expect people to put them on a pedestal. Iowa needs to win this game and start working on 2016 if they want to be respected.

I feel like this is Backass backwards? We're coming off our only loss that came down to seconds, that would have vaulted us into the playoffs. Meanwhile they would have had to back in, and our coming off a nice pac 12 championship, and should be happy to play a top 5 team in Rose. Oh well, guess they will have an excuse for when we roll them.

No doubt.

Stanford has like 17 fans
This comment made me curious, so I looked. Their stadium seats about 50,500, and they've sold out most if not all home games this year (Via Wikipedia). They played the pac-12 championship just down the street from campus, and there were 58k there (SC fans included).

I imagine they'll have a strong showing (25-40k?) at the Rose Bowl, despite their recent trips there.

Wop, I would guess that 25k is probably close to the top end on Stanford fans at the Rose, not the low end.

My guess is 25k-30k. Stanford will sell its allotment (22k) and then there will be some tickets bought on the open market. Stanford sold 39,000 tickets three years ago, but that was Stanford's first Rose Bowl since 1999: http://news.stanford.edu/news/2012/december/rose-bowl-fever-122112.html Stanford actually does pretty well showing up to bowls because it has alumni all over the country who travel back to the bowl game, but this is the third Rose Bowl in four years, so attendance may be down. Stanford does have a lot of alumni in L.A. who will show up.

By the way, www.ruleoftree.com is a Stanford blog and another good source of info on the Cardinal if you want to read up on the matchup.

it's interesting that school allotments are 22k for a stadium that seats 100k+. Is this thing going to be full of corporate types who DGAF? or is this just the minimum commitment from each school, and more may come available?
