Gopher fans and media complaining about officiating

Minnesota is definitely whining as Iowa fans would be if Iowa lost and total penalties were 12-4 in favor of Minn. I definitely could see how a hold could have been called on the Daniels run. Either way stop your whining goofers.

Iowa holds on every play. In the ISU game in the fourth quarter, there was obvious holding in the end zone, wasn't called, and Beathard completed a pass for the first down on third-and-long.

Over the years I have come to respect the fact that they obviously are coached how to avoid getting called for it. I am totally serious about that. When it happens that consistently over a period of years, obviously they're doing something right. Things that I -- and most everybody else -- think are holding, obviously are not.
LC, Iowa holds no more or less than ISU (and every other team for that matter). But if it makes you feel better thinking they have been taught some special technique that is consistently overlooked by nearly every officiating crew (and most coaches would naturally would complain up one side and down the other), then go ahead and think it. Honestly, it sounds really stupid, and wreaks of sour grapes, but so be it. Should give you guys something to think about when you are home for the holidays...again.

As bad as isu is it makes sense that clone fans can't tell the difference between holding and awesome line play.

Clone fans continue to tell the world just how little they know about the game of football.

On the last TD run by Daniels poock overran the play and LD was gone before our FB contacted the LB. THe cutback move from Daniels was special. The angle in the photo is deceptive. Probably why the refs didn't call it. Poock had no chance to make a play regardless of the hold.

Btw, that was Daniel's last TD run.
That's not a hold. Just a friendly hug between two rivals. Harmless.

Iowa holds on every play. (Iowa State holds on every play......deal with it. Cheaters.) In the ISU game in the fourth quarter, there was obvious holding in the end zone, wasn't called (Good.), and Beathard completed a pass for the first down on third-and-long (Good...because Iowa State didn't deserve to win AND they were trying to troll your mind in the process. Mission accomplished on both fronts. Hawks win.).

Over the years I have come to respect the fact that they obviously are coached how to avoid getting called for it. (Well that's your fault for allowing yourself to become that paranoid. Not Iowa's fault.) I am totally serious about that. (And I am totally serious when I say that I've come to respect the fact that you have spent so much time selling your literal bull sh**, that you actually have bought your own product. True story.) When it happens that consistently over a period of years (Iowa > Iowa State. Deal with it and stop being mad.), obviously they're doing something right. (If Iowa State was better at holding, they'd be winning national titles.) Things that I (No.) -- and most everybody else (Made up.) -- think are holding, obviously are not.
Oh......wait, so......Iowa doesn't hold? Just like that, you conceded that Iowa doesn't hold?

That was easy, I guess...:)

Btw, maybe instead of whining about Iowa allegedly holding, you should focus your energies on a team that actually holds and gets away with it in Ohio State....and I don't even give a f*** if you have no interest in Ohio State. You like complaining, right? Complain about them. I think it was 2013, they didn't even have three holding calls on them the entire season. THAT is worth looking into. Good luck, LC.

I guess you got in a hurry to answer and didn't read all my post.

I read your whole post. Obviously you didn't take my advice. You are embarrassing yourself. Stop it.

Iowa does what EVERY SINGLE OFFENSIVE LINEMAN IN AMERICA DOES. They hold the opponents jersey on the outside of the chest. Seriously, every single team does this. I'm not even sure it is illegal anymore.

Linemen are allowed to hold as long as it is "within the frame". The perfect block is getting your hands up under their shoulder pads in the armpits and hold them. That is the perfect block and will never be called for holding.

Holding is called when it is "outside the frame". Grabbing the jersey on the outside of the shoulder is where holds are called, but only when egregious.

And there you have it.... LC is so accustomed to losing arguments that he is now losing them to himself!

Please give me some credit, guys. If I were going to blame the Iowa loss on the officials, I wouldn't have waited two months to say something.

The hold would have actually hurt them.. 2nd and 16 with no timeouts but the clock DOES run..
2:01 down to 1:37 then snap, 5 second play, play clock starts around 1:30. 3rd and say 13 gets snapped at 52 seconds and takes 5 more seconds and play clock starts at around 44 seconds.. Take the delay of game for 4th and 18 and run a stretch with 4 seconds left to end the game..
This is all that needs to be said in response to the rodents. First, it wasn't a hold. 2nd, IT WOULDN'T HAVE MATTERED

Even if someone held Poock the refs probably let it go because he is a db. I can't believe the refs didn't call unsportsmanlike conduct on him when he hit canzeri in the helmet after the whistle. It even looked like one of the refs went up and said something to him about it but no flag.

Minnesota fans still haven't gotten over the time Iowa kicked their butts in the dome and then Iowa fans pulled down their goal posts.

2002 was great but 1986 still takes the cake. Rob Houghtlin misses what would have been a game winning field goal. The Minnesota bench went wild and then the referee was frantically blowing his whistle to say there was a flag on the play. Yep Minnesota was so awesome that they couldn't count to 11. After the 15 yard penalty Iowa lined up to kick again and this time it is GOOD. Hawks win again.

Silly gophers.

Some teams "hold" all the time, some teams commit "pass interference" all the time, etc. What's called is what is called. If an officiating crew is going to call a game a particular way, the teams involved need to adapt to that.

I think they're frustrated with the close games against the Big Ten's top teams. They've been through a lot this year with Coach Kill and all, lost a few really tight games against really good teams, and it's getting to them. Probably would be getting to me, too.

Are you talking about the 3rd and 21 play from the Iowa 6? The play is at the 2:35 mark of this video.

Cy-Hawk Highlights

Iowa State rushes 3 (for what reason, I have no idea). The only remote hold is Myers (the LT) on Pierson. And you pretty much see that on almost any pass play. Pierson gets to Myers' outside shoulder but never clears him. Myers engages with the left arm on his chest and Beathard steps up in the pocket and fires to Vandeberg. Is that the play you are referring to? I apologize if not. But I just have rarely seen that play called holding, either on Iowa or against Iowa.

LOL. He "never clears him" because #52 has an armlock on the rusher and pulls him away from the QB. But as I said, I apparently don't know what holding is.

Not holding. Iowa's LT rides him and let's the defensive player's momentum carry him past the QB. Is it a hold? About as much as any pass block where the OL has his hands inside and the defensive player is moved away from the QB, so basically no. In my opinion, that's textbook pass blocking on an end rusher.

No way was that a hold by Iowa in either the Minny game or the ISU game. A lot of people don't know what holding is.

Not worth arguing about. No more than the guy that sits next to me making comments about our pass defense while he has no idea which scheme they're in.

Agreed. From the time Nebraska came into the conference they seem to be the one team that were mugging receivers all over the field and it wasn't getting called. Well it was frustrating not getting the calls, I did notice that other teams started getting away with a little bit more more each year.

Now its all leveled out. The bottom line is everybody does these things it's not just something Iowa is doing or getting away with

That's not a hold. This isn't FB when you played where you had to keep your hands in on your own chest and block with your elbows and forearms.

He didn't hook him. He simply kept pressure on with his left arm straight.

He didn't grab his jersey and pull him. He recovered and also had his right hand pushing on him late in the play which is further evidence that it wasn't a hold. He recovered with his feet and reingaged the right hand.

NOT A HOLD. good lord man.

They did have one called back and it was blatant holding. As in grab the jersey on the edge at the point of attack. No question about it
Minnesota ran that end sweep about three times for big yardage and every time the tight end held King at the edge. They finally called holding the last time they ran that play. Iowa got screwed by the refs. They should have called holding every time Minnesota ran that play.

I can't believe Minny scored 35 points on us. Maybe someone should look into if they were cheating or not, jk.

Well, somebody didn't teach you to read, obviously.

And obviously nobody taught you how to put together a coherent thought. Anybody that has read your zillion posts on the Iowa board recognizes you mo. You throw out a dumb comment then try to take it back by turning it around like you were somehow misinterpreted. You say Iowa holds every play but later imply that they have taught to do so in a way that isn't caught. So either they don't hold every play...gasp. Or like I said, as you imply, they just know how to fool everybody. Which is it? Either way, your argument is stupid.

My problem here is assuming adult-level literacy on the part of all posters, which has been proven over and over again to be a mistaken assumption.

As to the play in the Iowa-ISU game, I'll say for the third time that I apparently don't understand the rule. You guys aren't denying that the Iowa player hooked the ISU player's arm and pulled him away from the QB; you're just pointing out that such an act is legal. I didn't know that. I have learned something today.
