Great Wadley article

I agree. Good work by Chad.

It is kind of hard to believe that Akrum has those numbers while only being the guy for one year. I was kind of shocked he was in the top 5 of that many categories. Crazy to think the numbers he would have put up without the fumble issues/ ankle injuries.

This article needs to be required reading for every incoming football frosh.

Honestly it should be required reading for everybody, fans included.

As you read that article you see parents and Coach were lockstep all the way. They were all in agreement with what was expected of Akrum.

Two things immediately come to mind. We have had a lot of kids in the past that haven't fought through that adversity, they have felt sorry for themselves and took the easy road and transferred. Rarely has it turned out great for them and Derrick Willies comes immediately to mind.

The second thing is similar...our fans have piggybacked on that same line of reasoning. The coach was unrealistic, he wasn't playing his best players and it's stupid to penalize an "explosive" player for turnovers.

It's nice to see someone's hard work and perseverance pay off and see Coach and parents stand firmly but lovingly behind them.

Great work Akrum!!!

I was glad to see this. It honestly kind of boggles my mind that more of our sportswriters aren't reflecting on the career Akrum has had. He's my favorite current Hawkeye and I will miss the crap out of him. I hope he balls out for us one more time Wednesday.

Specifically for Iowa players this a good story to read. Iowa is a developmental program. Very often that means on AND off the field for the student athletes. They need to know that others face those ‘developmental’ difficulties and that they can be overcome. It certainly helps to have a parent like Akrum’s mom. That’s who the fans could learn from.

Great article! Demonstrates the Iowa coaching staff sticking with Akrum, work to develop him (weight and strength), and how a strong parent really made all the difference.

Would love to see Akrum get at least 2 TDs to finish at least tied for first in career TDs at Iowa. Hope he has a strong injury-free career in the NFL.

I am going to really miss him just like most all Hawk fans.

This is the key in life, good parenting.... Caring, disciplined, consistent, impactful parenting...

MrAkrum to us.Ronnie Harmon? WALLS HE RAN INTO? Luvs the MIC no?

I would also count the td that was over ruled by the inept ref to his total for a tie-breaker, if necessary to surpass Tavian.

He's the type of talent that will be appreciate more when he's gone and we don't see the same plays being made. The 4th quarter plays he made against Iowa State and Penn State were insane. Just crazy. Those 2 games, the 2015 game against Northwestern and the 2016 Michigan game will be remembered for a long time. Unreal ability to make guys miss in close quarters.

Great player for us. Wish they could have found mo betta ways to use him this year. I wish him a standout NFL career!

Nice short interview with Wadley here. Didn't know he had a daughter. Hope he has the game of the century out there in front of his family and the rest of the faithful. We could use a guy like him on the team every year.

One thing you just got to really appreciate with Akrum and King last year is the great positive influences both of their Mother's had on their lives. How it was so important with both to get their degrees and told them through the tough times to stick it out especially Akrum's.
