Hard Knocks style Iowa Camp Video

That was awesome. Couple of times where Boone held his own against Ott. I gues not every practice is like kids day.

Oh, man, this is great. What was it produced for? Recruiting? Publicity?

They've been doing more of these types of things in past few years. Last year was something similar, although the 2015 version has more of the teaching/coaching view. I would guess the purpose is a number of things. Recruiting, excitement for fan base, general promotion of the program. It's a good direction, as the strongest point of the Iowa program is the development/quality of the coaching the players gets once they are here. Showing more of that in a setting like this is a great use of resources.

Hard not to be pumped up and excited for the season after watching that!

It looks like GD is giving the quarterbacks a nice long lesson in how to throw 2 yards beyond the LOS to one stationary target left of center. Why waste time on this drill? And why is an assistant coach catching the ball?

Unfortunately the drill doesn't incorporate the fact that (in the real world) the receivers are in motion and there will be 6 to 10 big guys in the way of the pass.

It was just a simple accuracy competition and I don't believe a "assistant " was catching. Probably a student assistant or a Mgr.

You are trying way too hard. BAU

Obviously you missed the point of the drill, one of which looked like internalizing the "clock" for reading their progressions. One thing I couldn't figure is what the competition was on the drill, which CJ apparently won.

Another about this drill: remember a bit ago someone was trying to say that GD teaches QBs to go through their progressions short to long? Apparently that's not correct??

That's some dandy analysis - please forward your drills to the staff so they can incorporate them.

I almost started to get excited for football.

Trying not to think about the last time they played.

Hopefully CJ can carry this thing beyond the typical mediocrity.

I believe the point was to hit the receiver in a spot. Like his tiger hawk. Or the chest. Common game in baseball. So many points for head, chest, torso.

At 13:25 it looks like a new punt formation
Heard from BHGP that they are going to the bunch formation that many teams are now using. (Think that is what it is called)

IIRC , the concept is to free up more guys to release. (I think that was it)

Well, the video producer sure as hell knows what he/she's doing. Let's hope Brian F can get the OL going so CJ can save Kirk's job.

It doesn't surprise me that they made a point to show the offense winning a competition against the defense and a couple of touchdowns. But actually showing Ott getting blocked by Boone was a little much. Great video though and the Beastie Boys rock!

Loved the segment where Davis was demonstrating the science of a checkdown.

Needed more Jim Reid and Phil Parker.

Punting protection is called "Shield Punt Protection." The drill with the QB's was a simple footwork and progressions drill. It was the QB student manager catching passes. Every school in america does a similar drill during the individual period.

No matter what, it seems some of you can find something to piss and moan about. So tiresome.
At first I thought it was clever irony as in this "video is so great, let's be Iowa-like and find something to bitch about." But on reflection I think we're just Iowans bitching.
