So nothing in the modern era. Got it.Wyoming, San Diego State, USC.
So nothing in the modern era. Got it.
Umm, Wyoming was this season.
They also are forced to play ISU every year, which this season turned out to be a benefit for a change.
Gotcha. Not that I can remember, and we prob wont anytime soon considering the preset B1G deals.
Damn, I was trying to troll Iowa State and their mid-major bowl opponent. I guess that was lost on most of you. My bad
The '80s is ancient history? So nothing in the modern era. Got it.
Is BYU considered a mid major? Played them a couple times.
The '80s is ancient history?
December 30, 1986 Holiday Bowl W vs San Diego State... 39 - 38
December 30, 1987 Holiday Bowl W vs Wyoming... 20 - 19

Those were both great bowl games. We tied a great Ty Detmer BYU team but BYU was not mid major in those days.
I’m just really bummed that the time period AFTER I graduated is considered ancient history. So nothing in the modern era. Got it.Wyoming, San Diego State, USC.
Wisconsin played a mid major last year didn’t they? Houston
And lost to TCU in the Rose when they were still a mid major.Badgers played Western Michigan in the Cotton Bowl last year
Wyoming, San Diego State, USC.
Maybe if you're a snot-nosed millennial.in college football it kinda is
Wasn't it the Western Michigan boat rowers?
Many of the parents of the players in today's games were not even born then. I think just going with the last 25 years would be adequate enough.Maybe if you're a snot-nosed millennial.
The 80's are well within the modern era...especially in the context that I was responding.
Yes, we've played mid-major teams in a bowl...they were mid-majors when we played them and they're mid-majors now.
*mid-major as in non-P5 team
Just kidding. Still dislike USC from the first Orange Bowl (unless that is considered ancient history). How is either USC a mid-major?
Hmmm, maybe, but not many 18-20 year old players have parents who were born after '86-'87...(the dates of our bowl games vs mid-majors) That would mean they became parents at age 13-14. Not likely. Many of the parents of the players in today's games were not even born then.
None. How about in the last 25 years? Has Iowa played any mid-majors in a bowl game ...
I agree, but unfortunately it is a term that the talking heads use when grading a P5 teams OOC schedule. The term "Mid-Major" should be ancient history itself in this current era of college football.
