Carver is a stale and outdated arena. Hell it wasn’t even that great when it was as built and Lute hated the idea of “theater seats”. The arena just isn’t good. Never been a fan of it. A lot of the noise filters to the top of the arena as well. Concerts sucked there for that reason.

Carver is an excuse why Iowa men’s basketball doesn’t draw well, along with late starts and winter weather.

In a sport that defines success by making a run in the NCAA tournament, Iowa has one Sweet 16 over the past 35 years, which was with a lame duck coach. My 22 year old son graduated from Iowa in May, but wasn’t born when Iowa last made a Sweet 16.

Iowa’s failure to have NCAA tournament success over an extended time has resulted in a less engaged fan base, so game attendance is highly impacted by convenience.
