Hat Tip to Filip. 22 Points, 11 Rebounds. 82% Shooting

Rebraca is playing with confidence. He's being aggressive. He's playing with a chip on his shoulder. And he's improved his positioning and overall skills while playing awesome defense against bigger, quicker guys. He reminds me of guys like Steve Krafcisin and Kevin Boyle from back in Lute Olson's days at Iowa. They were undersized bigs who just played harder and tougher than their opponents. I appreciate natural talent, but I LOVE guys like Krafcisin, Boyle, and Rebraca . . . guys who may not have top end athletic talent, but they are relentless. There's nothing more fun for me--in any sport--than watching guys succeed by simply outworking their opponents. Rebraca is one of my favorite Hawkeyes because he gets more out of his potential than most anyone else anywhere. Which is also why I've always appreciated Connor. He and Rebraca work hard and never back down. Tony Perkins is much the same. And now they're all getting excellent results. Without them, this team would be lost. Man, last night was fun with the Hawkeyes playing with energy and aggression and the fans right there with them. Play like that every night, and even when the shots aren't falling, it'll be fun.

As he did on Tuesday against Duke, he's beginning to get more consistent, worked his butt off both games, but needs to still work on his free throw shooting...I guess they all will during Christmas break. Well done Filip, well done...

Hopefully 60% at the FT line is not his ceiling. And note below how much more he's getting to the line this season.

This year, in 9 games, FIlip is 26-45 at the FT line for 58%.

Last season, in 36 games, he was 35-58 for 60%.

The prior season, at North Dakota, in 26 games he was 74-122 for 61%.

I’d say we’ve got a pretty good history here of what he is. Which is interesting because his shot looks pretty solid. Unfortunately only every 6 out of 10!

We pursued a couple of bigs in the Portal we didn't end up getting. One had a real bad game against us the other night and the other is sitting out injured. Rebraca is playing a LOT better than both of them. Had we gotten one they would be riding the bench. Doubt there is a team in the B1G who wouldn't love to have Filip. Kid has the heart of a Lion.

I love Filip, obviously. But I think you are being a bit unfair to Fardaws Aimaq, the injured guy you are talking about.

Injuries happen. All you have to do is look at Kris Murray. Hopefully we don't have any more because we simply can't afford any more.

Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported yesterday that Fardaws will be re-evaluated this coming week, so he might be back sooner rather than later. When will Kris be back? Again, injuries happen. And who knows, if Fardaws had been in Iowa City, maybe that injury doesn't happen. We'll never know.

Fardaws played at Utah Valley last season. He picked Texas Tech over Iowa and others. The guy is a stud and I don't think he would have been riding the bench at Iowa had we gotten him.

Fardaws is a 6'11", 245 lb Center and would have provided Iowa with depth and versatility.

Filip, last year, averaged 5.8 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game. He shot 60% from the FT line & just 17% from three.

Compare those numbers to

Fardaws' stats last season (played at Utah Valley):
18.9 points/game
13.6 reb/game
1.7 assists/game
1.3 blocks/game
0.7 steals/game

49% Overall FG%
44% from 3
72% FTs

34 min/game
2.7 fouls/game

Utah Valley is a long way from Texas Tech. Let's see how he does there before he's anointed the next chosen one.

I am not disparaging the young man at all. Just pointing out he has not been able to produce anything. You just never know. If Filip can continue to give us 30+ minutes a game then we didn’t need a portal big as nearly everyone thought. It would be nice to have the extra depth though.

Yep. When injured, you don't produce anything. Just like Kris did not produce anything vs Iowa State. ;)

As I stated, Fardaws would have added depth and versatility to the lineup.

Kris is down now. When will he be back?

Fardaws is down now, too. Sounds like he might be back sooner than expected.

If Filip goes down? Yikes.
