Hats off to coach Kennedy .......

He has done a really good job in Texas. Opening doors in the lone star state.

Coach Kennedy is doing a super job, as far as I can see. The stable of Running backs he now has lined-up in the Hawkeye backfield may be unrivaled in Hawkeye history.

When you think about LeShun Daniels, Akrum Wadley, DMX, Eric Graham, Marcel Joly & all the
RB recruits now headed to the Hawkeye family..............well, pretty awesome, indeed.

What's the connection between Kennedy and the other backs (besides Eno)? I don't think he was the lead recruiter on any of them? Just curious what I'm missing here.

Or Nick Bell/Tont Stewart....bottom line, typical recentcy excitement that stretches reality.

Who are these coming to IOWA to be coached by???
Do you think they don't know who their position coach is ??

Yikes - let's not get wayyyyyy ahead of ourselves. Daniels is a career 4 yrd per carry rusher who has never come close to being all conference. Wadley, Joly and Graham were extremely low rated commits coming in with virtually no offers other than Temple between the 3 of them out of hs, and Joly and Graham have never even touched the rock at Iowa.

We forget, there were years when Iowa was STACKED in the backfield. Young and Sims, Greene and anyone else, Shaw and Banks. I love bringing in a 4 star RB, and it looks like we got some talent in the 2016 RB class, so maybe in a few years, we will be able to compare our current backs with some of the greats. But the current roster is not likely even in the top 8-10 of the Ferentz era.

There was a time when Adam Robinson and Brandon Wegher were doing pretty well, too.

And if you go back to Evy's Rose Bowl days, Bob Jeter and Willie Fleming were as good as anyone in the country.

It's easy to get carried away, but Iowa has had some pretty good running backs all along, although there have been some gaps here and there as well.

Wadley could be a star if Iowa simply gets him the ball. Likewise with Mitchell. And Daniels, when healthy, is no slouch.

The new guys have potential, but I'll wait until we actually see them on the field wearing black and gold before I start gushing. Anybody remember a kid named Brinson?

I do know who their position coach is...do you? I was honestly asking what the connection was because I don't follow it that closely and thought maybe he had connections to all these kids.

Joly has two carries for 13 yards, thus a career average of 6.5 yards per carry. In other words he is one of the greats ;)

BK was previously a coach at the University of Texas, thus he has quite a few inroads throughout the state with coaches/programs. Hope that helps!
along with being a position coach at Texas, he also held the ast recruiting coordinator position for 6 seasons..My guess is that also helped him with the networking aspects in recruiting the state.

Wadley was a 1st team All stater from NJ, Green coming out of HS was listed 2* in the 2004 class, after his 1 year at Milford Academy was upgraded to a 3*

these were the 4*'s after Green left
4* Weghers
4* Coker
4* Garmon
4* by Lemming Akinrabi, Midwest Scout for the Chicago Tribune and also has his own recruiting service.

and nowBenjamin. with the OL that he will have blocking for Daniels if he can stay healthy he could put up some big number and afterall his best game was 194 on 25 carriesor 7.76 avg. injuries hurt his numbers and avg

Gilligan, Wegher is singular, not plural. Jeter, Fleming & Jauch would get my vote as well, but Sedrick Shaw and Tavian? Man, what a one, two punch.

Shaw still holds the all time IA rushing yards for a RB, really liked that kid, my memory might be old but I believe he had a pet Bobcat.

Are any of our running backs (other than Eno) from Texas? No. Rockeye was wrong and tried to call me out for questioning what Kennedy had to do with our "current stable of running backs". I have no doubt that Kennedy has helped our Texas pipeline, but to give him credit for our current running backs is just wrong.

Agreed. He should see the rock FAR more than Daniels. I like Daniels just fine, but he doesn't possess much of what Wadley brings to the table. For some reason Iowa's Coaching Staff thinks Daniels in the 2nd coming of Shonn Greene. Apparently all they see is running a big back 25 times and wearing down the defense. Doesn't really matter if we actually score or not, just wear'em down! That didn't work so well with 3 years of running a fullback at the tailback spot.

Give Wadley the rock and sit back and watch the scoreboard.

Pretty sure Daniels broke several agility records for Iowa RB, at 235+ his #'s were pretty impressive....I think if/when healthy you might change your tune a bit....that jump cut against Minny was pretty impressive

I'm in the Shaw/Banks group on this one. How are we forgetting this tandem though? Russell /Lewis. Pretty special 1-2 punch right there as well.

I have spoken with Bobby and LaShonda several times and I can tell you that coach Kennedy is extremely bright and capable. He can be very funny but he really knows his business. However, he coaches the wide receivers. Coach White coaches the running backs. They are both outstanding coaches.

Sorry, wasn't trying to state someone was right/wrong. I missed where you put (besides Eno) in your initial post, my apologies. I agree with you in that he doesn't deserve the credit for our current RB situation. Was just attempting to help clear up any confusion as to why BK has connections in TX.

Not even close

Not even close. Try Jeter Fleming and Jauch.

Jeter, Fleming and Jauch all three combined rushed for a total of 2,644 yards and scored a total of 19 TD's total in their careers at Iowa.

Shaw himself rushed for 4,156 yards and 33 TD's. Tavian Banks? He only rushed for 2,977 yards and 33 TD's. That's a combined 7,133 total yards rushing and 66 TD's.

So no. Jeter, Fleming and Jauch were not the best backfield in Iowa history. They couldn't hold a candle to Shaw and Banks. It just gets old hearing Hawk fans says the older players were better. It couldn't be further from the truth. 17% of Jeter's total yards for his career came off of one game. ONE GAME! The Rose Bowl against Cal.

Your data analysis and interpretation doesn't do it for me, yet. Needs more depth, eg., convert data to z-scores, relative to the other teams in the league to determine which backfield had the higher z-scores for yardage and touchdowns. And All Big 10 status for the backs would also be interesting. That old team was really good; you might be underestimating them. Iirc, the were rated #2 in the country behind LSU and Billy Cannon. Here's a related question: Do you believe that Barry Bonds was a better hitter than Babe Ruth because he hit more home runs. I don't, but then, I'm an old guy without a broad enough perspective, and I'm sick and tired, too.

I thought Greg Davis was supposed to be our Texas pipeline. His one Texas recruit (Nic Shimonek) left after one season.
