Have the Chicken-Littles that told us all summer the sky was falling...

so, when iowa gets maybe 6 wins this year and struggles to get in a bowl, then gets in a bowl and and loses to somebody like tenn, will the people who say cj hung the moon come back here and eat crow? see, it works both ways.

Yeah, but of course, nobody is saying that. All we are saying today, and I can't believe how so many otherwise smart posters are missing this, is that the doom and gloom posters who told us all summer that Iowa had sunk so low as a program that Illinois State was likely to beat Iowa yesterday were wrong. That is all that this thread was about. Nothing more, nothing less.

I believed a story about a guy who saw Bigfoot once..

I really didn't check this board much all summer. I went to hrot of course. I was still mad at iowa for 2012, 2013, 2014. so I kind of stayed away. if 2015 is good, a trend has been broken. good. we shall see. I cannot blame posters for being mad at a large body of work over three or four years time and predicting 2015 would be much of the same, for the first game at least. I'm glad they played well, now let us see them do it again and again.

I was one who thought iowa would lose yesterday. Figured a scrambling, athletic QB along with speed and talent at the skill positions would score more than they did. What I didn't count on was how gawd awful the ISU oline would be. Ott is a heck of a player, but their LT was terrible. It's like he didn't know the snap count. By our dline dominating, ISU was playing behind the chains and get any momentum.

Also did not expect such flawless execution from our offense. Penalties, dropped balls, missed WRs...that stuff didn't happen at all, which is rare for an iowa opener.

Interested to see our line play next week. Watching our offensive tackles, they were ok, but I'm concerned a good dline is going to cause us major problems. Hope our dline can dominate again next week....

Yeah, but the real story here is that actually replied to a OIT post.
and oit posted within that thread as well. we saw a mini sasquatch when I was in Ottumwa in high school but it could have been a small bear or a big black dog. ha ha

was it soybean or somebody else who may have seen the johhny gosch abductor? that was "cool story bro", I'm thinking that was somebody else

So was that story fake? Also what about the fence and the ring?

No, it wasn't fake. And it was a money clip on a fence post...the ring was at the tail end of the story. I'm still amazed at how that simple event caused so many of HROT to implode.

Don't fall into the trap, Bean... your OP was right on target. Now that a select few have little, if anything to contribute, some of their ilk choose to divert the attention of your thread as far away from the Hawk success of yesterday as possible.

Could be a Sioux City East thing.... or just an Ottumwa thing.

You must be a sad little man..... Btw, I predicted we would win yesterday.

Pepper - We are not talking about the prediction thread, We are talking about the dire predictions we heard all summer on this very board.

You are quite the drama queen here with your comment.

I read an incredibly small smattering of people here predicting 3, 4, or 5 wins this year--maybe like 2%.

The vast majority of your so-called critics were predicting 7 wins, and certainly some 6. You call that dire? (well , I guess you did, that's the word you used).

Funny how people like you get pissed at those you feel are doom and gloom yet you bring it all onto yourself when you start threads like this and want to thump your chest. You fail to realize you absolutely invite those who do not share the same opinion as you to jump all over it the first time Iowa loses.

Instead of discussing the game, you'd rather try telling everyone how smart you are and how everyone other than you has no idea. Let me remind you, your past year's predictions about Iowa football haven't exactly turned out so hot. So, for the love of God, what if this Iowa season doesn't play out now the way you seem to have stuck your neck out to predict? Any thought you could look quite foolish by starting this thread? I'd say the same thing if your thread was predicting a terrible Iowa season after one game. Iowa has 11/12 of the season yet to play as does everyone else in America.

Why don't you try having logical football discussion/debate without trying to antagonize others and just create a greater divide.

I dunno. I've seen some really bad coaches in my day. I think we could do much worse.

We definitely could do much worse. There is no question on that... Ferentz ball has been boring for years. That is what needs to change to quench the thirst of Hawkeye fans. Hopefully there can be a happy medium found. Because I like winning! Losing is an Alford or Linkliter hire away.

When have the Chicken littles ever ate crow?

How about after the Northwestern game last year and before the 1-4 and blowouts against Minnesota and Tennessee? I remember that people were told to eat crow after that game.

After what we saw every thread turn into over the summer I think it is fair for him to gloat a little. There wasn't one single thread during the offseason that contained a "logical football discussion/debate." The vocal minority shouted down any hint of optimism to the point that I didn't see the point in participating here. I believe these posters are who the thread was aimed at. Were you one of them?

I predicted Iowa would win 7 this year. I am objective and certainly not the rose colored glasses wearing fan many of you are and I will voice my opinion on many varied subjects like anyone else here. To say the crowd thats overly optimistic getting beat down, seems it goes the other way just as much. The reason it stands out more (the crowd that doesn't see everything as Iowa is great here, great there) is because many people have no clue how to differentiate objectivity and negativity. Are you one of those?

Gloating after beating a 1-AA team by 17 points.

We truly have become Iowa State. Sickening.
maybe I'm wrong but after reading the few posts of yours I'm pretty sure you are a troll. Did you come from CyFan?

...returned to roost here yet? You know the ones I'm talking about. The guys who told us how bad Illinois State was going to beat Iowa. How they would out rush us. How Tre Robinson would destroy us on the edge. How the Redbirds were too fast for us. How we had fallen so far that we would lose to a FCS program for the first time ever. Have any of them returned to tell us how wrong they were.

I'm not big on calling out other posters, and I won't do so by name. But these self described "fans" made me sick all summer. Today felt so good....and the crowd was great and hung in pretty good for as freakin hot is was inside Kinnick today.
Yes it felt good the way Iowa won. So why be such a douche and throw out this negative vibe? You are like a more; angry, senile, & bitter Kilroy

Just enjoy the win and stfu

I'm far from the rose colored glasses crowd. My opinion: we have a lot to learn about this team yet.
I think I'm completely objective.

Oline hasn't convinced me of anything yet. Dline hasn't convinced me yet. LBs haven't convinced me yet. WRs haven't convinced me yet. DBs seem fair to good. RBs I think we're OK. QB I think we'll see some good some bad. TEs are a bit of a question. Kickoffs looked GREAT. Punting is still a big question mark. Return game we didn't learn much. Same with kick coverage teams. Depth is a MAJOR concern. Lots of football to be played yet.

We've seen teams that were supposed to be good have lackluster seasons and we've teams suffer early season blowouts and end up in the Orange Bowl.

It was just annoying watching every thread over the off season turn into the same 5-6 posters complain about the coaching staff no matter the subject.

Sorry I upset you. I was only talking about one game - Illinois State.

I have to agree with the poster said that this was the most dominant performance by a HAWKEYE team in quite some time.

I was so stoked yesterday that I did not sit down (in my own man cave of course) until after isu scored their first TD.
If by quite some time you mean last year against NW, then yes it was quite some time. Look it was a nice win but it shouldn't change any of our preseason predictions. I hope I am wrong but I am still predicting 6-6.

After yesterday, I'm thinking 7-5 with a shot at 8-4, up slightly from 6-6 with a shot at 7-5. Still nothing to write home to Mom about, but I do think we have a better squad than I thought we'd have.

I stated a high school coach could win 9 games with this schedule. I stand by my 9-4 prediction.

Unfortunately, this has been the case for a couple of years now and we haven't gotten it done. I shared the same sentiment until the Hawks fell flat repeatedly with a cupcake schedule. Now much more skeptical.

OK, I may have had a little "Chicken Little" in me. For sure I had a lot of "pissed off" in me. I still do retarding the game experience and terrible job Barta is doing. But.....................for the next 5 days I'm going to feel like a champion and think about our chances of knocking off Ohio State in the Big 10 Championship Game. Just let me enjoy the next 5 days.

Yep, I knew this team was going to be good. Of course I was called crazy by certain posters. Posters who are obsessed with that past years performances will predict this years results? Ive known since Vandy at QB Greg Davis did not have the players with the right skill set to make what he does work. The combo of Ruddock and Wiesman absolutely killed us the last two years. What we have now is apples and oranges over the last 3 seasons at making this offense go and we already seeing proof of this. This is a 9 win team.
