I can about imagine what Phil Parker said to Beyer as he was running off the field. Parker was getting the defense ready, saw Beyer running by to the sideline, took of the headset and got his money’s worth it looked like.
Remember he's in a noisy stadium with 70k fans, and the returners had backed away from the ball. They were a pretty good distance from him. That ball was basically dead, and Beyer was still yards away. I doubt that they thought he and the Wisconsin player he was locked up with were going to get that close. I actually thought he may have been pushed back into the ball, but Beyer was creating most of the contact, so probably no call to be made there. He is blocking with his back to the ball. The kick returner has to yell out. I don`t know if anyone yelled out and neither do you, but I would assume that if they did he would have stayed away.
Good observation. Actually a really smart play by the UW kid, who knew they were close to the ball and stayed engaged but didn’t make an obvious move to give the appearance that he was blocking Beyer into the ball. He did nudge him a little but not enough to make the refs call it.Remember he's in a noisy stadium with 70k fans, and the returners had backed away from the ball. "Coaching!".... in your life, than running into a crowded group of punt team guys surrounding the ball on your 10 yard line when the play is clearly over and throwing a block, hitting the ball with your foot....causing a turnover that giftwraps the opposing team a TD??
Not trying to pick on Beyer, but this is an example of how costly it can be to lose focus. EVERY play matters, and you HAVE to have your head in the game and not make mistakes that would be embarassing in pewee football.

doing his job ? that is some stupid shit . how much common sense does it takeYou guys don`t seem to get it. He was doing his job but nobody yelled at him to stay away. It was a total special teams breakdown.
???????It takes 11 players and numerous coaches to make a team....and all of them are responsible for one error.
"That's football!"Two guys got too close to that ball for no good reason. If that wasn’t weird enough, another invents some weird jumping, prancing blocking style that only serves to kick a ball and put it in play. Bigfoot standing on the sidelines with a press pass would seem normal compared to that play.

Agreed. The ball stopped completely which means dead ball.Ya boneheaded for sure.
How come the play wasn't blown dead? Would the officials have let Wisky stare at the ball all night?
Worth remembering, especially knowing that they scored a TD on that drive that ended up being the difference in the game.Boneheaded play that should never, ever happen but I'm not going to crucify the kid. I guarantee there's nobody in Iowa City or the entire state who feels worse about it today than he does.
Good point, indeed.Agreed. The ball stopped completely which means dead ball.
