Really good list, hard to remember and list everybody.

As others have mentioned, John Johnson must be on the list. Arguably the second best player from 1970 to present in the time I've been watching anyway (might be Super Sam Williams with Ronnie Lester of course as the absolute best).

I'd also add Kevin Kunnert in the 1970 - 1989 block. I'd add those two guys and remove Horton and Boyle from the starting 5 and insert Johnson & Kunnert. I'd move Stokes to the 6th man and remove Boyle altogether.

All in all, very good summary list.

I could easily live with replacing Boyle with Johnson, and I'll edit my OP.

Replacing Horton with Kunnert isn't going to happen, sorry. ;)

To not have John Johnson in the "Starting 5" in lieu of either Horton or Stokes suggests to me you probably are too young to have the pleasure of watching JJ (in addition to those other two). He was way better quite honestly.

Even though Stokes scored so much more, Kunnert had the better all around game IMO. I recognize that the intent of this post is only Iowa Hawkeye basketball and there isn't a direct correlation from the college game to the NBA but consider that Kunnert played 9 - 10 years in the league, Stokes played 1 season.

Doesn't really matter, it's your list and personal opinion.

Reggie Evans over Settles.
Love RE, he was a beast and definitely worthy of being a starter in that generation ...no argument there. However, before back-issues derailed him Settles was also a beast. Plus, I'm partial to home-grown guys.

I admit to never seeing Kunnert play, but looking him up it sure appears he was at least a half-notch above stokes...plus he is home grown.

I'm going to edit my OP for the second time and swap him in for Stokes. Thanks for pointing him out.

Haluska was awesome. But, I think another transfer, Luke Recker was just a bit better. I keep hoping Joe W will take another step and get to their level, he is very close.

So now you have Horton as a starting forward and John Johnson coming off the bench? Horton was one tough player, but not even close to being in the same league as Johnson!

Johnson definitely starts. I didn't check right now but am pretty sure he averaged 28ppg his senior year. Both he and Brown played in NBA for over 15 years. I actually thought Brown and JJ were the top scorers during the Six Pac era (1970), but when I checked we had JJ at 27, Calabria at 19, Vidnovic 17 and Brown 18ppg. What other team at Iowa has had 4 guys over 17 ppg?????

On Edit - comparing the Six Pac to now - they were called that because we pretty much played 6 guys. Ben McGilmer was the sub and Dick Jensen started (I think). Jensen wasn't very good but took up space and grabbed a few boards. I think he maybe scored 3-6 ppg and rebounded around 4-5 and played maybe 15-20 minutes. And probably pretty smart guy - was in my advanced Calc class!!!

On your 1950-69 team

Carl Cain was a forward not a guard.
He received some votes for All-American
and belongs on your team but not at guard.

Love Ryan Bowen and Jess. But, how can Chris Street not make that team? I know he's a sentimental choice, but he was really a great player, too. I'd probably place him above Ryan.

90-09 Team

Woolridge
Recker
Settles
Street
Earl

6th Man: Bowen

First, we all loved Chris Street and I seriously considered him for 6th Man of this generation, but in the end his career was tragically cut short. While his trajectory was definitely on the rise, no one really knows how he would have stacked up to the others ...we can only project. I agree that he definitely deserves special consideration, but not as a starter in my book.

Second, you mentioned before your preference for Recker over Haluska...personally, I'm not seeing. We all have our individual preferences/opinions.

That's what I get for relying on Wikipedia.

Thanks for the clarification.

I'll edit my OP to classify him as G/F.

Okay, after considering all the recommendations above and further research on my behalf, I'm updating the All-Generation teams for Iowa. Hope this is more palatable.
