Heated at rhe end of the game?!

It’s too bad it ended like that because that was a really good Big 10 battle. Brad Underwood is really good guy, listen to his post game, proud of his kids, very complimentary towards the Hawks. It’s too bad an assistant had some poorly chosen words and that Fran probably overreacted a little.

So Iowa was supposed to back off, but not Illinois?

Exactly. The issue here is they lost and are pissed about it. Acting like whiners and to Underwood's credit he was not happy with his staff as he understands it is not a good look. I like him, he's a helluva coach that I hope moves on.

I could be wrong, sure. But just because the majority thinks I’m wrong, doesn’t mean I am. Certainly the rage some of you have just because a poster has a different take is psychotic. I have to find another team and I’m a douche bag just because our player who has been involved in every scrum weve ever had was involved in another.
Then you're like 10 years old. Ever heard of Jacob Jaacks, Chris Kingsbury, etc.? You're looking very bad today. Is this the cross you want to die on?

So if the roles are reversed you have no problem with an Illinois player doing to the Iowa bench???
Depends, and we all know this. Giorgi is your Luka. Great kid, plays with emotion and effort, but all in good sport. If Giorgi puffs his chest at Iowa bench I’m like any fan in the moment, shaking my head thinking aw fück you Giorgi, but not really offended or anything. That game was great and pretty much zero in that game suggested either team was acting in poor sportsmanship.

You take issue with Weez’s dunk. The only scenario where it is reasonable to take issue with that play is if Illini had conceded and was going to let Iowa dribble out the clock. But three guys rush towards Connor looking to foul him. So he throws it to an open guy who happened to be releasing. And the way that Weez caught the pass really his only play was to finish it. Remember, we’re talking about Joe Weiskamp here—not exactly some guy noted for being a dick out there.

I will say this. A lot of fans have longed for some fire and passion from our players. We have some guys, finally, that are tough as hell and talk some shit. Garza definitely said something to their bench. If Cockburn would have done the same thing Iowa fans would be freaking the f out. I love the passion and swag this team plays with but I do think it’s prudent to be objective. If you can dish it you gotta be able to take it. That said, the Illinois assistants were out of line. No need for that kind of behavior.

Like I said 2 good teams but 2 plays in my opinion didn't need to happen!!! Especially the Garza puff out your jersey at the bench!! The dunk at the end does bother me too, but it was a fun game to watch. I'm sure Iowa fans hate us as much as we hate you!!

I agree, Fran should have a talk with Garza about not directing his celebrations toward the opposing bench.

But there was absolutely nothing wrong with the Wieskamp dunk.

If instead of that dunk, Illinois gets a steal and hits a 3, the game is not over.

So the game was un-decided at that point.

Even if it’s a 15-point game, if opponent is still competing, you still compete, too. Period. That’s why I simply do not understand the Illini coaches.

What an interesting thread, ignoring the Illini player puffing his jersey after hitting a 3, calling out Fran for having his path blocked and yelled at, claiming the ‘Conor’ has been in every skirmish while ignoring Luka in the Wisconsin game, people wishing death on others. Objective usually means not influenced or biased. Not sure if that criteria was met.

said it for two seasons now, give it a week...

I just watched the end again. Dosunmu, who is a good kid, fierce competitor, and certainly expresses himself out there—so basically like Connor, could be suspended for the punching at the ball at the end. It’s as punishable as Davison’s crap. Of course Davison was maybe more deserving because of his history.

Yup. The video tells the story.

He didn’t overreact. He has consistently pulled the team out of situations that could get incendiary. That’s just smart. Look at CJ’s emotions. There was no need for handshakes.

Holy shit, Iowa just beat a top 20 team in the final minute and people are mad about CMac mad bc his hands got hacked. Jesus christ you guys complain about everything.

Class???? Is that why in the last 10 seconds when the game was over and Illinois was NOT going to foul and Iowa throws a deep pass....rather than dribbling out the clock your class player dunks it!!! Garza...very good player but after you make the 3 to ice the game DON"T puff out your jersey at the Illinois bench!!! Act like you've been there before!!!

Should be a fun game in Champaign!!! Go Illini!!

Or how about make a basket and pull your jersey down to show your nipple! And you say “class”.

why was the official escorting Conor back to the bench? Because he was instigating. He kept talking and Looking back at Illinois players while doing so. Off camera he said more. That’s what Illinois coach was saying was bullshit
You must have been court side to hear or see him mouthing off to the Illinois players after "it was off camera". You must have court side seats?
Nice. Must be a long ride home for you also?

For Fuks sake guys. Even if it was a bad take, it’s just a bad take. Not saying it was at all btw. Why so personal? Get a grip. For all those that have made personal comments, good for you. Congrats. Do you want to fight me too? Do I need a life? What else?

BE NICE WHILE I TROLL, DAMMIT!!

Love Connor he is one tough sob ,loves to compete...But- Fran needs to have a talk with his guys about not adding any fuel to the fire......Lots of hand gestures, bad body language after fouls called, saying shit to the other bench....Class it up a little boys , you don't need to do that stuff , it will come back to haunt you when you at a moment when you don't want nor need it to...
Love this team, love their toughness, understand you need swag but Be careful you don't cross the line

Wow I’m a huge Hawkeye fan and will be going to the rematch ....I won’t be wearing any gear to that game could get a little out of hand What a great win for the hawks. Feels like the 80s and 90s lots of intensity and maybe some bad blood. The Big Ten is better when these two team are playing well Go Hawks !!!

garza taunted the Illwhini bench after the 3. I think that started things in motion. He’s going to get T’d up for that.
Oh, I'm pretty sure I seen an Illinois player pounding his chest and pulling on his shirt after he made a 3 about 5 min. before this. So It's okay to do this if you're from Illinois on Iowa's court but not for Garza? Things will cool down until Iowa plays in Illinois in a month or so. Sure hope that assistant coach doesn't contact Deion Thomas and have him DRIVE over to the game and help coach:(

A lot of truth to what you are saying, but nobody knows how much BS the Illinois bench was spewing the entire game at guys on the court.

I am not sure how much other folks have watched Illinois play (I watch nearly every BIG conference game and as many non-conference games as possible) and I can assure you Illinois is a very, very aggressive team and borderline dirty, Other teams get tired of their act and push back at times.

**** that. This is big ten hoops. At this point you should know that being aggressive and talking quite a bit is fueling this iowa team and wearing down the opponent mentally. No way in hell you try to back off of that mentality.

Honestly I have a ton of respect for Underwood. Like fran he is pretty fiery but yet very cerebral. It takes a lot of confidence to completely scrap your defensive philosophy because it was not working.

Rocket, apparently you don’t understand what the word instigating means. Hacking a player down 7 with 4 seconds left was the ‘instigating event’ in this situation (and the refs not calling a foul). Connor ‘yapping at the bench’ was a RESPONSE to this action. You calling him the instigator or saying anything negative about him in this particular situation is the single dumbest post on this site, ever. And that is saying alot..

The Illinois bench started the yapping after the buzzer. The official was closer to Connor. That's why he walked him away from the situation.

This is a much tougher team than the Fran era baseline. That's a big plus.

I would like to see them keep it more under control in these situations. More ignoring, less chirping back.

Fran stopping the handshake line and sending them to the locker room is better than a brawl erupting. But it shouldn't have to come to that.

you literally just had a player suspended for stepping on an opponent so you can save the "class" arguments.

you know what isn't classy? Coming to a handshake yelling f bombs as a grown adult.

congrats on not losing by 20+ like last year.
