Henry Ruggs in serious car accident

Granted, it's Wiki. But thought this was mildly interesting re: the Stallworth situation.

A Yahoo! Sports story published August 12, 2010, reported that Stallworth's lawyers indicated he could have fought all charges with "an excellent chance of being found innocent", but that Stallworth chose to be convicted of a felony to do what he felt was morally right. The article says that David Cornwell, one of Stallworth's attorneys, felt there was irony in the public and media reaction to Stallworth's decision because they criticized the plea deal without knowing the full story.

Reportedly going 156 mph before the crash and over twice the legal limit of alcohol.

Blood alcohol level .161
Serious question, how in the fvck is he not dead driving 156 mph in a 45 mph zone and getting into an accident? Pregnant wife (no pic) and I were visiting friends in Germany six years ago and ended up taking the Autobahn to Munich. One of our German friends was driving. We were going 140 mph and all I could think was "if we blow a tire, we are all getting shoveled into coffins." We were in a much sturdier car than a damn Corvette too. Stuff like this just blows my mind along with WTF was the driver thinking?!

I'm assuming 156 was not the speed at impact, "just" that he was going 156 at some point before the accident. He should get at least 25 years.

What a waste of a two lives and a career.

And the Raiders have 24-7-365 on call limo service for players.

The impact pushed the Toyota, which burst into flames, more than 570 feet before it came to a rest near the intersection of Spring Valley Parkway, the report states.
When he arrived, the report states, he heard screams coming from the Toyota. The driver was still alive, he told police.

But he couldn’t pull her out, he said, because she was pinned inside the SUV.
When police arrived at the crash site, Ruggs refused to participate in a field sobriety test, according to the report. Instead, two blood draws were taken at the hospital.

Metro redacted the exact results of the blood tests in Ruggs’ arrest report, but at the football player’s Wednesday morning court appearance, a prosecutor said his blood alcohol level was more than twice Nevada’s legal limit for drivers.

So he was driving 157 mph while drunk and with the mother of his child in the car. They had a one year-old at home.

Oh, and he killed a dog in the crash. This story keeps getting worse.

Death Penalty.
This guy's career is over and by the time all the legal stuff is over, and civil case, he'll be penniless.

Just another case of a young athlete that found wealth and pissed it away.

I know exactly where that accident occurred. That's an insane speed on a freeway or on some deserted road. In that area, the outcome was obvious.

The nfl has a free dd policy for every player.
They will also drive a players car to their home.
100% private also.
I think the NBA has a similar policy. I don't know about the other major sports, but, at least the NFL and NBA can say they bend over backwards to keep players, and the public safe.
Beyond stupid what happened.

Rumor has it he was drag racing a teammate that was in a Lambo.
That would make the situation even dumber, so, I believe it without any verification. It's all so stupid I can see someone conspiring with him to make it even worse to comprehend.

This. He should be a corpse.

Agree, according to the reports he did "slow down" to 127 at the moment of impact

Officials says both Ruggs' car and the Toyota rolled over 500 feet after the initial impact ... where the Rav4 caught on fire.
How freaking safe are corvettes when you can slam into something going 127 mph, roll over 500 feet, and basically be fine?

Waiting for that one poster to come along and say it was peculiar the decedent was driving alone on that stretch of highway at that hour. And the accident wouldn't have happened if she hadn't been there....

Sounds like the mother of his child who was in the car with him suffered severe arm injuries and needed surgery. The DA is considering adding additional charges as a result.

If the reports are true that the woman was screaming as being burned alive I hope those screams haunt Riggs every night.

156 mph is literally standing on the gas pedal and grinding it down as hard as you can with your foot.

What a complete dumbass

You must drive a Taurus.
When I was 18 I took the family car on the newly opened 218 south of IC and opened it up to 110. I was stupid, and that's the last time I ever went over 80mph. Nobody should ever go that fast on anything other than a race car, on a track, with abundant safety precautions in place.

The intersection where the accident occurred is about 3 miles from my house. I drive on that road (Rainbow Boulevard) all the time -- it is not a highway or freeway, but a six lane major north/south thoroughfare here in Vegas. That someone would attempt to drive in excess of 100 mph on that road is absurd.

Ruggs retained David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld. They are the two best criminal attorneys in town. I have worked with Schonfeld on occasion (he has referred me civil matters) and he is a good dude.

Chesnoff/Schonfeld represented Scott Gragson in his DUI with fatality case from a couple years back. Gragson has deep Vegas roots, is worth in excess of $100M, and is the father of Infinity Series drive Noah Gragson. Gragson got into an accident after a charity golf tournament which resulted in the death of a 35 year old woman. At sentencing, Gragson had over 250 letters written on his behalf to the judge and still received 8 years in prison. Ruggs will be put away for longer than that.

As he should be. Taking someone’s life should result in a longer sentence than 8 years. That’s pathetic.
