Here is how the 2016 Big10 West Football race will sort out...

Enjoy the close Big 10 west runs for the next year or 2 because the recruiting improvement the Huskers are getting now, the sleeping giant since 2001 is starting to wake up. With the QBs the Huskers are getting the past 2 years and the QB transfer, the Huskers will have a good decision maker at QB finally and all the talent in the world to surround him with. Iowa maybe favored this year but years to come, it will be the Huskers lead by Gebbia or P Obrein.
You guys had 20 some 4* from 2011-2014/5.....how many of those top notch recruits are even starting for you now??

That is what most said last year too.

Do you think that maybe you would have more credibility if you were to have known there were 9 conference games this season? We see the EDIT after your initial post, which no doubt was you changing your 8 game predictions to 9 games.

Something tells me that a guy that hasn't even looked at the schedules before making predictions is...remarkably...all wet.

How many times do we have to say that Blo Pelini and his staff ran off a number of highly ranked players before you will believe it? Just take a look at the analysis of talent in the West, and see that both Northwestern and Illinois had more talent than Nebraska in the 2-deep last year, and that will tell you what Blo's staff has done with highly ranked players.

The man was a poison, but since he was 3-1 vs Iowa he was somehow revered. It will take us a good 2-3 years to fully recover from the negativity that Blo Pelini instilled in the program.. Our players were so scared of screwing up under his leadership that they would freeze up under the big lights of a meaningful game. Playing tight was a foregone conclusion under Blo.

I check out all the other Big 10 west teams rivals pages and only, i mean only Iowa thinks the Huskers aren't any good any more. I mean ever expert and football big heads thinks the Huskers are on the right page and on there way back up. The west is going to come down to our Friday game in Iowa, the Huskers and Iowa have some easy ass schedules, it's pathetic. Wis gets the shaft so i do not see them making a pull and Min will have a new coach and schemes to break in, most teams struggle the first year.

It will be Huskers and Iowa for the West with Northwestern being the dark horse here. Im not going to get full of myself like you Iowa fans do and claim Huskers this and Huskers that but both Iowa and Huskers have the talent and coaching to do big things this year.

Sleeping Giant since 01'. That's gold so most seniors who turn who 22 this year were 7 the last time they were a top tier team. Here's the problem with some Husker fans. They think they are elite and they aren't anymore. Is Nebraska still a good solid football program? yes they are. Are they a top elite program? Not since 01' as you've stated. It kills Husker fans that on the national landscape they are viewed on probably the same level as Iowa since 2000. Difference is Iowa has had few more great seasons and few more low seasons while Nebraska has been steady with more above avg seasons.

As for recruiting lot can happen between now and when these players are ready to play. Transfers, injuries or not living up to the star rating. If it was based on recruiting Miami would dominate the ACC where they still haven't played in conference championship game. Plus Mike Riley has never won a conference title best finish ever was tied for 2nd and in 15 years has never had a season with less than 4 losses so its not like he has a history of dominating the PAC 12 before he came to Nebraska with a ton of success.

Must be true that the bad pennies (and I am giving every possible benefit of all doubt here that you are worth as much as even a penny) return.

Last fall, Nebraska returned five starters offensively, six starters defensively and both the punter and the kicker from the nine-win team of 2014. Included were five seniors (two with starting experience), five juniors (three previous starters) and a redshirt freshman on offense. The defensive roster had three seniors (one a returning starter), six juniors (with four of them experiencing starts before), a sophomore and a true frosh. Each the punter and the place kicker returned with starting experience. Hardly the 'woe is us' tune that you want others to believe.

All the blathering about Pelini is nothing more than an excuse. The illustrious AD made it very clear that he would fill the position with someone ready and fully capable of leading mighty Nebraska to its rightful spot in college football. The results of 2015 speak loud. Five wins and seven losses during the regular season with defeats at the hands of lowly Iowa and Purdue.

A team as experienced as Nebraska should be better than that. Returning QB, experience at each of the skill positions, both OTs as seniors with starts under their belt; three of four DL returning starters with the fourth being a senior, two junior LBs, a returning starter at CB and at FS with another senior filling the SS role - you can take your 'we lacked experience' song and dance somewhere else because no one here cares much less believes anything you say.

Go back over to huskers illustrated and tell them all you know about music or something.... stay away from topics where you look like a total fool.

I forgot that Nebraska was a conference game.

MAYBE we didn't get Wisconsin's best shot, but we know ISU and Northwestern hates us, and then as the season progressed all our opponents were motivated to be the ones to give us our first loss. So I think we generally got teams' best shot.

This is the way I see it. Nebraska may be better than many think, and Wisky will win more games too. Iowa will be good but not great this year.

Nebraska 8-1
Wisconsin 7-2
Iowa 7-2
Minnesota 5-4

Northwestern 4-5
Illinois 3-6
Purdue 2-7
So Nebraska is going to lose to who? OSU? Iowa's second loss is going to be to Wisky? Wisky is going to beat OSU, Iowa, and MSU? Or is Iowa's second loss going to be to Michigan and Wisky then sweeps the top three in the east?

Everyone has an opinion. spbc7 thinks his/hers are more important than all others. What a football fan he/she is.

You didn't explain the reasoning behind your predictions; how each team is going to win or lose games on their schedule. How does Nebraska get to 8-1, and how does Northwestern get to 4-5?

I'd also be interested in how you came up with these :).

So after going 3-5, you feel NEB will go 8-1? I assume the only loss being OSU? Their 5 toughest games are all on the road and the QB hasn't been able to develop game time smarts in 3 years, I can't imagine this off season doing him that much good.

Then WI you have going 3-1 against MI, IA, OSU, & MSU(3 on the road). All ranked top 15-20 in the majority of preseason polls. This is a team that was mediocre last year and not only lost its best player on each side but also a more defensive based team that lost their DC as well.

Then you have Iowa losing to NE(i assume) and who else MI, or WI?

I keep seeing this and it really isn't true. They played the majority of last year without their 2 best players on offense, Clement and Voltz.
I didn't count Clement as he barely played. Can't say I know much about the center, but I believe he was healthy when they put 6 points up against us. Then again so was stave :)

Clement has serious potential, but he got hurt again in the bowl game. Can he actually go through a whole season? With that schedule, can he even make it into division play?

Some one mentioned something about TA and they're spot on. I really believe Nebraska will be a top 25 team this year, but thinking we'll win the West with him is a little asinine at this point. Re-do this thread around September 20th.

Did you just pull these out of your ass or did you actually look at the schedule.
Everybody has already asked about Nebraska. I would like to know what 2 teams does Purdue beat?

I believe Purdue wins 2 of their 3 games against Illinois, Indiana and Maryland.
And I think Nebraska is going to be a better team than many believe, and Iowa will drop a game or 2 they shouldn't. Again just a gut feeling.

I'll be cheering for my Huskers, but I think Iowa will be headed back to the B1G Championship. I have Nebraska 7-4 going into Black Friday. Losses: Oregon, Ohio State, Northwestern, Wisconsin. Indiana is a toss up. Armstrong is too inconsistent, and we still haven't established a solid run game under this staff. If we can't establish a run to keep IU's offense off the field, Nebraska won't win. IU will score, and Armstrong makes terrible decisions when his back is against the wall. I love the staff at Nebraska, but I think they're still a year away. Hoping Patrick O'Brien turns out to be the real deal.

I hope that I'm proven wrong. Nebraska was SO inconsistent last year that it's tough to make a call.

I've got a QB question for Husker fans. Is Patrick O'Brien in the plans for QB this year or will he redshirt? I would think he would burn his shirt no matter what, so that there is separation between him and Gebbia. Say Nebraska is out of the big ten race with 2 or 3 games left. Does Reilly hand him the keys for the last two games?

I'm hoping he wins the backup spot, and gets some reps this year. According to the people at practice he's doing well.
