Here's what Phil Steele says about Iowa

I disagree -
Grouping: [Iowa]
Washington
Texas
Miami
Notre Dame
Michigan
Florida
USC

Steele implies Iowa will finish ranked. Did they in 16 or 17? How often do fans on Hawkeye boards say "Iowa doesn't get any respect"? The grouping suggest that Iowa is getting respect, which contradicts a popular narrative. And a prediction is only revelatory if it becomes fact. Insightful is the word you should have chosen. But even then I would've challenged you since that distinction also won't be known for months.
Point taken as to word choice.

I maintain that it is not particularly news in that Iowa (currently) would be favored in all remaining games, except psu. IF they won only the games in which they were favored, they would almost certainly be in the top 20(prior to bowl completion).
We'll see how it plays out. Right now it doesn't look like a particularly bold prediction.

The gulf between Alabama and 99% of the rest of the CFB teams is huge. Less than a handful of teams could hang with Alabama at all. That doesn't mean they aren't beatable or that their schedule isn't loaded with crap opponents.

Just have to go gimmicky against Bama if talent level much lower.

Not really. The ouch was the passing TD to go up 21-17 or the INT in the two min offense. That TD he described meant nothing. The game was over by that point.

The ouch could have also been that the Iowa offense shut down early to mid 4th quarter with a three point lead.

Rather than an end-all/be-all, it could benefit Iowa to reach a NY6 bowl (and win....) as a stepping stone for next season. Strive to elevate what bowl games we seek to participate in, meaning build around smaller goals to set the stage for reaching the bigger goals.

Since Iowa doesn't control their fate in the conference championship race, they just need to control what is still in front of them each week.

If we go 11-1 and dont make the CCG, we could still be looking at a major bowl game opportunity, and that's something we need to strive for more along with our goals of winning a Big Ten title.

I hate the schedule argument. It is very lazy. At what point? Coming into the year, Northwestern was coming off a 10 win season and Purdue and Minny were on everyone's list as "surprise" teams. Nebbie had Frost, PSU and Wisc were top teams and ISU was going to have a "historic" season. OSU is the only sure thankful miss we have. Michigan is good but they would be lucky to get 20 on us, Mich St is pretty average and we don't get Rutgers which offsets OSU. Maryland beat who could be the Big 12 champion and Indy looks improved. Illinois sucks.
