Sorry if I missed the explaination elsewhere, but TJ Hockenson caught pass for a nice gain in the 4th qrtr and it was called back for holding on TJ Hockenson. Or at least that is what I heard on the PA at Kinnick. I assumed this was a mistake and then on the radio Kirk said something like "that is never called". So, I'm still really confused. I'll hang up and listen to your answer.

Where's the confusion? Hockenson was called for holding in a situation where it is never called. He was blocking, shed the block, and went out to catch the pass. If he held, it was for all of 1/2 a second.

The ref threw the flag on Hockenson after he had caught the catch and been tackled and the play blown dead. How could he wait that long to throw the flag and then call holding? I couldn’t understand this call either. No one around me at the game had any kind of explanation for it.

The explanation by Brady Quinn who has many year experience watching game film was...umm that was three holding calls on Iowa that were...then he stopped cause he didnt want to rag on the refs even though he was about to say three phantom holds.

Every holding call on Iowa was ludicrous, none more so than the call on Hockenson. Really, those refs were off the charts. Interception? Not really. Fumble? Gotta be kidding. Holding? Not a chance. But at least they were consistent. They didn't get much of anything right.

All three Iowa holds were garbage! Quinn mentioned that on the broadcast.. that stuff KILLS Iowa drives.. it's a sure punt when we start behind the sticks

Good point. The ref when announcing the penalty should just say "Holding ... offense ... loss of possession Iowa."

Seems pretty much a defensive player just needs to fall down near the LOS and there's a flag anymore. Makes no sense.

There were several blatant holds by Minnesota right in front of the official that were not called.

This game felt similar to the north Texas game in that the offense started strong, but officiating took over the game a bit.

While it sucked, I understood the review on the fumble at the end of the half, but I don’t understand why the interception stood. The ball clearly moved when it hit the ground. Minnesota had a couple a tough calls, but it seemed like a lot of iffy penalties were called last night.

This happens often when an Iowa OL pancakes someone. Seems to me there were similar holds called against Iowa in last year's NW and NDSU games that negated TDs, and swung the outcome of those games. Drives killed by these horrible calls can easily be the difference when the team is involved in one score games.

Bazata was held several times right in the middle of the pack and nothing was called. The Hockenson hold was weird all he did was shed the defender.

Nope. Have to stay with the face mask penalty on Clinton Solomon when the guy pulled old #88 to the ground by his mask and the refs called Solomon for a face mask penalty. Only time I've seen a penalty called on a players face mask for pulling the defenders hand to the ground....

It’s a close race as to which call is worse, that call on Solomon or the offsides call on the onside kick.

It remains the only game I’ll ever agree that the officiated influenced the outcome of a game.

KF needs to send in film of the calls. Unless you make a stink, you will get abused.

I think refs seem to feel need to interject themselves into game too much. Like they aren't doing their job if they aren't dropping flags.

mmm on replay it looked like a fumble -

It kind of strange the head official was Mike Cannon from Minnesota and a huge Gopher fan. Some one google in "Cannon earned stripes on big stage" and post that article that will get the fur flying

Yeah, the worst call in the history of college football. Thanks for bring it up.

Right there with the phantom offsides call on Chad Greenway on the onside kick vs. Florida by the same dogshit Conference USSR officiating crew.

At least on the offsides, (while clearly on replay he was not offsides), it was still a judgement made, correct or NOT. The call on Solomon was just so obvious that he was the not the party responsible for the infraction.

Oh, man. I'd forgotten about that! I was so pissed!

If we could make that a real penalty in return for moving the other team 50 yards from the new line of scrimmage, sign me up now.

The Ohio State game is only gonna be worse, especially with Meyer on the sideline.
