Does anyone have any suggestions for a home security camera?

I don't want to pay a monthly subscription.....I would like to start w/ something simple that I can check on things while I'm away. Maybe 1 indoor and 1 outdoor w the possibility of adding on. Recording isn't really that important either. I'm not sure where to start. I see options all across the board I don't want to overbuy, but don't want junk either.....

I've been happy with Wyze cameras down at our Key West house. I have a combo of indoor and outdoor and it's easy to add cams. 2 of my outdoor cameras are battery operated, 1 outdoor is plugged in as well as one indoor. One of the outdoor battery cams had a malfunction and they replaced no question. They are all web-attached.

We have Arlo. We like it.

I have heard Geeni is really cheap and good enough.

For the battery cams, are these like lithium batteries that have to periodically be recharged? If so, how long do they last on a charge?

I had a Ring doorbell with the battery. It was good for about a month at a time, and recharging took a few hours. Curious is these outdoor security cams were equivalent, or lasted longer. Thanks!

Google Nest is what we have for Wi-Fi, doorbell, inside cams, smoke alarms, and thermostat. We'll add more as time goes on. Eventually becoming as much of a smart home as we can. If you plan on growing Google is a real easy product.

In my opinion there are two options Google or go with Amazon's selection of products. You can slowly build overtime with just not cameras but other smart options to add on.

I installed them on October 24th. Recharge type... Settings are such that it's not on the highest or lowest battery consumption. Currently they are showing 47% and 50% battery remaining. Can either take them down to charge or run the cord to them.

So maybe 2 months, give or take. That's not bad! Thanks for that! I'd just have to make sure they're mounted somewhere I could get to rather easily when i need to charge them, and not up near the roof where I'd have to routinely get up on a ladder.

Yeah, I'd say 3 months easy for my location/use. Of course if you're pointing them towards a busy sidewalk the battery life would go down. Because of where our house is, I had to be strategic in how I covered our front door. Its basically 8 feet from a high traffic tourist sidewalk.

And, they have a solar panel that can be used if the location etc are right.
That would be helpful - at least for the backyard, where there's a lot more direct sunlight throughout the day. The front would be more challenging, unless there was a way to mount the solar piece up on the roof, with a wire running down to the unit.

That's the same w the Ring - I had to fiddle with the "zones" until it was no longer catching the passing cars, sidewalk traffic, etc. At first I was getting notifications all day and night, and that was killing the battery.
