Horrible Missed Penalties by the Referees

Do referees not call facemask penalties anymore? These had the potential to change the outcome of the game. I don't want to hear anything from nebby fans about calls from last night.

One of the worst missed facemask calls I've seen in a while:

Hawks won with an embarrassing 5 1st downs vs a team that gave up 60 pts to Indiana and 500 yds to USC.
Anytime this untalented team wins a game be happy because next year you may be complaining about the officiating vs Albany. Looking at 2-10 right in the face!

Dude your team is still playing this week, calm down and get back to the isu board.

What about the shank punt by Nebbie that went out at what looked like the 40 yard line but the refs put it at the 50. Correct me if I am wrong.

Hard to tell based on NBC's top notch camera work. For all I could see he may have kicked it out of the stadium based on the camera panning downfield to nothing.

You are correct. That was an egregious facemask penalty that is impossible to miss. And then they call Iowa for PI?! And a similar thing happened again with the Nebraska D-back grabbing an Iowa receiver's facemask with NO PENALTY. I don't understand why KF wasn't out there throwing his notepad at those incompetent goofs. I mean not making those calls is totally ridiculous. It was like that bowl game against Florida many years ago . . .

This made me laugh. Thanks, I needed that.

There was a graphic last evening that Nebby used 6/7 different field goal kickers this season.

Agreed, but the referee really doesn't know where it went out... He has to be watching the punter for roughing, and the sideline officials all have responsibilities to watch on the field as well. Despite having eight officials, nobody is really watching exactly where the ball goes.

It's a process that hasn't changed in 50 years and is probably ripe for some improvement.

Again, you are correct, but this was a whole new level of incompetence. They are watching. It’s just a tough job of multitasking. They usually get reasonably close by anyone’s guess.

This was really something else. He literally must have forgotten he was supposed to spot the ball, and just said, “well, the 50 is in the middle.”

I'm glad I'm not the only one that was outraged by those no calls. It seemed as if the crew had agreed to essentially swallow their whistles the entire game to get off that cold field unless it was so obvious that they just couldn't ignore it. And you're right, one of those ended up a PI on Hall, complete BS!

I also thought the Nebraska OL got away with plenty of holding of our DL & LBs, so they can cry me a damn river and I'll sail my boat down it.
