And a textbook personal foul chop block on Fisher. Would have set up 4th and 15.Iowa was inches from ending the game on 4th and 2.
It's over with now. Stop crying about it whiners. Move on.
What this guy says.It was a very awkward and difficult situation for Kirk with how the timeplayed out:
1st and 10 at Iowa 13 with 2:15 left, gain of 3. Iowa called timeout.
2nd and 7 at Iowa 10 with 2:09 left, gain of 5, Iowa called timeout.
3rd and 2 at Iowa 5 with 2:04 left, no gain, Iowa called timeout.
4th and 2 at Iowa 5 with 1:59 left, gain of 2 (1st down).
From then on Iowa had no timeouts and had almost no control over the clock.
So the problem is, if Kirk didn't call the first timeout, MSU would have been able to take the clock down to at least 1:35 and it would have been 2nd and 7 from the 10. Assuming they didn't score or get a first down on the next play, MSU would have been able to take the clock down to 50 seconds before running another play. At that point, 3 timeouts do you less good because there is SO LITTLE time left.
It was a lose/lose situation, either burn all your time outs forcing them to get a 1st down, or save all you timeout and let them leave Iowa with no time on the clock.
Kirk's timeouts forced a 4th and 2, and we were SO CLOSE to stopping them. Shit happens.

He had 3rd option
Let them score once they converted on 4th down
Unfortunately, the refs were never going to throw the flag. And a textbook personal foul chop block on Fisher. Would have set up 4th and 15.
And a hold on the TD by #75 on #43 Jewell. MSU would have had two shots from the 11 had a flag been thrown.

Give it up. You're an idiot.
Coaches did it right and we just got beaten by a better team.

Teams that make plays when they have to are the better teams for that very reason.I disagree that MSU was the "better" team. Both teams are evenly matched and played one helluva game. This is the kinda game that coulda gone either way. Unfortunately, MSU made the plays when they had to. We could play this team ten times and wouldn't be surprised if we had a 5 wins and 5 losses. Lot of credit to MSU. I've been pointing to next year as our year all season long. This was a surprising year for us. With what we have coming back, we will definitely be back! Go Hawks!
My only disagreement would be with the last sentence. MSU is EXCELLENT and deserve credit for a gutty win, but I wouldn't concede that they're simply a better team. These two teams are very evenly matched, IMO. If they played 10, I suspect they'd split them.Give it up. You're an idiot.

I agree. Flipped fields. Gave them three points.I would have let them score since MSU rammed down our throats the whole drive. I also would castrate whoever thought going for a blocked punt was a good idea after holding them to start the 2nd half. That was the game changer that cost us.
And was the key reason our defense had no gas in the tank for that last drive. That roughing the punter was the ball game. PeriodI agree. Flipped fields. Gave them three points.
