In this thread we will predict which major college BB coaches will get the old heave-ho after this season.

I'll start, my selection is Richard Pitino (who I affectionately call Wee Monsieur)

Who ya got?

Prohm deserves to be fired but its probably at least a 70% chance that he gets one more crack next season.

I think Pitino and Miller are gone.

I don't think ISU can fire Prohm but Iowa St. has the worst team I think I can ever recall in my lifetime.

The buyout for Miller is high, I think $10M. On the Indiana board many don't think the AD has the guts or ability to replace him. Others are praying for the change. I always laugh when their first two choices are Brad Stevens and Billy Donovan - not that they wouldn't be great, but would they coach there?

The impact of Covid to the athletic dept. budgets at every school will play a part in these decisions. If some wealthy donors are willing to pony up buyout money, the optics will be better. But for a school to be on the hook for multi-million dollar buyout will not sit well in the world of public opinion.

Considering that's already been reported, the pale man is a gimme.
Who else ya got?

Tough year to fire coaches, especially those with a big buyout. As bad as ISMoo is, I think Prohm gets another year. His buyout is 50% of the remaining contract. (roughly $6M I think). That's a chunk of change.

FYI, The Goophs got rid of Pitino for roughly $1.75M if the numbers I read are correct.

I'm in Indy and the Star has reported on this a few times as well as Dakich on his radio talk show . Arch should be gone but $10M is "a bridge too far."

$10M, huh? Interesting.

Archie & Sean must have the same agent.

2 years ago, if Sean had been fired at Arizona with cause (as a result of the Adidas scandal), he still walked with $10.3M.

I am telling you; these 2 brothers are peas in a pod.

Don’t see how Prohm can survive at ISU.

Who has a "with cause" buyout that big? The University might as well say, go ahead and cheat if you need to. We have your back.
Their agent be affiliated with Bendini, Lambert and Locke.

Yeah, Sean could have admitted he was in on the Adidas scandal, gotten fired with cause, and still got the $10.3M. What a deal!!!!

But seriously, there is just too damn much money involved in the sport & too much money going to coaches. No wonder families of these 5 stars want to be paid a simple $10,000 to go to a program when the damn coach is making $2 million plus a year.

I would pay money to see Alford end up there. You are totally correct. If those are their choices they better find two candidates that are a bit more reasonable.

WELL AS LONG AS WE ARE TALKING HOTSEATS? Why is your FABULOUS bball coach not on a hot seat. Has 2 years in a row not come close to winning big ten. Player of the year and 4 seniors. Think for a second and ask how many close games he wins by his tantrums and coaching.. Embarassing for doing nothing with this team. Mediocre coach and lousy recruiter at best.

I wonder how many coaches have ever lost every conference game and still kept their job the following season. I especially wonder how many did it several years in. It seems really quiet on the basketball front since their football program is literally the best it's ever been. I don't know a lot of ISU fans but they just seem apathetic to it.

Logically inconsistent.

Fran recruited and developed the POY. Fran also recruited a player that set the all-time assist record and has made the 2nd most 3pt shots in B10 history. Both of those players were not Top 100 rated recruits.

Fran has his detractors but he definitely is not on the hot seat.

If Fran was such a great development coach, his 2 sons would have a better shooting stroke then they have. Other then recruiting Luka I'm not sure that Fran had much to do with developing Luka, I'm going to give Luka and his dad all that credit and that goes for Bohannan, Weezy, and C.J. too.
Fran is slightly better as a game coach then Raveling was and that's a slim margin as far as I'm concerned.
Granite, Fran switching from playing zone for extended minutes and watching the other team torch us with uncontested 3's to playing man to man more, might be the best coaching decision he's made in 11 years.
Fran's coaching has defiantly been a sore spot for me since he's been at Iowa, but Fran is hardly on the hot seat. He'll be here for as long as he wants to be.
