Hottest and coldest Iowa games you've attended?

Know we've done this before, but always seems to be a fun discussion for the dog days of summer.

My choices:

Hottest: Iowa vs Kansas St in Kansas City, Eddie Robinson Classic, 8/26/00. Can't think of another game that even approaches this one for heat. Marching band members were keeling over. Water fountains in the concourse not working. Puddles of sweat between your feet. I remember chugging hot water from a gallon jug we had left in our car after the game.

Coldest: this one isn't as obvious for me. I remember the Minny game in '05 was pretty damn brisk. Michigan night game in '09 is up there - remember waking up to sideways snow that morning.

Your picks?

Hottest = NIU vs Iowa. Rudock threw late INT to seal the NIU win @ Kinnick. I've never been to a game where they were giving away free water so people didn't die of heat exhaustion/dehydration.

Coldest = Had tickets to Michigan a few years back but didn't go. So probably Minnesota game in the early 90s. We always used to play them the last game of the year. I was just a kid and it was brutal.

2013 Michigan is coldest for me by far.

Hottest not really sure. I wasn't at the opener in 2013 against Northern Illinois but my sister told me they were allowing people to come in with their own water because it was that hot.

Not sure if I remember the hottest. Seems like most of the Labor Day weekends are pretty hot. Coldest? Either Purdue last year or when we beat PSU right before the final gun. Wind chill was nasty that game!

2013 Michigan was officially the coldest, but 2012 Nebraska was nearly as cold with a fierce wind. At least the win over Michigan warned us up.

Yep, Northern Illinois in 2013 was the worst.

Coldest for me would probably be a tie between 2012 Nebraska and 2006 Wisconsin because of the damn wind. The stadium was half empty during the Nebraska game so body heat wasn't gonna do squat, and I was sitting directly facing the wind so that was fun.

The Wisconsin game wasn't quite as cold, but the wind chill made it rough. Couldn't even escape the wind by going up into the walkways in the tunnels.

I'd say the wind is worse than the cold temperatures.

Craziest weather though would be the 2011 Tennessee Tech game with the monsoon rains causing a delay.

I'm not sure about the hottest. The coldest was 08 Penn State. It was kinda nice early on while tailgating, and then I got drunk so I didn't really bundle up much. Once it got dark, it got fudgin cold. But it really didn't matter because we won, and I proceeded to get hammered all over again/csb

I remember that Kansas State game. It was CRAZY hot..if I remember correctly there were a couple of big plays by a young player named Sanders who wasn't yet called Bob. :)

Iowa's game with Michigan on Nov 23 2013 is the coldest game on record in Kinnick stadium. The high was 18 degrees that day but It was around 8 degrees at kickoff and wind chills were below zero. Ironically one of the hottest games ever in kinnick was NIU earlier in the season.

KSU at Arrowhead was the hottest. It was brutal.

Coldest was Minnesota '91 at home, with the '13 Michigan game a close second.

Personal Choice:

The 2012 Nebraska game. My son and I visited for Thanksgiving from Texas to my brothers in Mankato, MN then traveled to Iowa City for the Nebraska game. Hit a dear at 10 P.M. or so going 80 MPG in our Jeep on 218 - killed a 12 pt buck and even though our power steering and entire right side where ripped off, we made the game. So cold and under-dressed at the game we almost froze. Drove back to Texas with no power steering and massive repairs but the Jeep made it the whole way. :)

Arrowhead in 2000 is the hottest. People saying 2013 NIU are either too young or weren't there for the K-State game. Keep in mind they had beer for sale and we got beat pretty bad from memory. Numerous Hawk fans passed out. I was buzzed but at least knew to buy some waters at half. I helped a very drunk Hawk fan out with an extra water, but don't know what happened to him after that. It was scary to be honest.

Iowa-NIU 2013 or KSU in Arrowhead Stadium (2000? We had Kevin Kasper and Kahlil Hill) were the two hottest games I've ever been to.

That Michigan game a few years back when it was 6 degrees was really cold. I've felt colder temperatures as an Iowan, obviously, but I have never been colder in my life than that November afternoon

Purdue 2015 was pretty cold because I worse TENNIS SHOES to a snow game. My feet were in 8+ inches of snow for the entire game. It was physically painful to walk back to my car after the game that day.

Not sure about the hottest.

Coldest for me was Minny @ Kinnick '81 or '82.
The Neb game couple of years ago was cold and was made even colder by pissing a lead down our leg.

Hottest was a couple of years ago when we lost to Western Michigan.
Coldest was Northwestern game in 2000. We spoiled their rose bowl bid.

My parents went to the game at Arrowhead with another couple (all in their early 60's or so at the time I believe), the only Iowa game my dear Mother has ever been to I believe! One she'll remember for sure! Ha! They told us when they got home about how oppressive the heat was. I believe they ended up leaving early because they couldn't deal with it any longer.

Coldest for me personally was Penn State in 08. Darn chilly, but what a great ending! Had tickets for a Gopher game back in the late 70's or early 80's that was brutally cold (and a meaningless game in the Grand Scheme of Things), and just watched the game on TV from a Townhome close to the stadium, with the windows open so we could hear the crowd noise. I think 5-6 of us drove 5 hours down there, and only one went to the game. Plus we had to make 2 trips to the liquor store before the game, when the dude hauling the booze slipped on some ice and busted all the bottles! Good times.

I was at that game as a young kid. I was so cold I spent the second half by the heaters in the restrooms.

I was in Storm Lake visiting my grandparents that day. It was hot there but not as bad as it was in KC.

But if K-State in 2000 was the hottest then 2013 vs NIU is 2nd. At one point the field temperature was around 140 degrees.

Not sure what the temp was but the coldest I remember feeling was at the Gator Bowl in '83.

@Nebraska last year was pretty brutal. Something like 0 degree and below wind chills by the end.

Not a direct answer to the question, but the crappiest weather I ever dealt with was the game against whatever FCS opponent a few years ago. EIU maybe? The one where it just poured nonstop the first half and had to be delayed for lightning in the second. Glad I left at half.

Hottest: 2010 @ Arizona - Maybe because I'm old but triple digits is not tailgating weather.
Coldest: 1983 Gator Bowl v Florida - Probably not actually the coldest, but sitting in the upper deck dressed for stereotypical Florida weather, I have never been as cold at a football game in my life.

Coldest: 2013 Michigan. I lost a testicle.

Hottest: Inside the Carrier Dome. It was miserable.

I am with the 2000 vs Kansas State in KC as the hottest. It was absolutely brutal that day. So was the Iowa defense and offensive line.

Iowa lost 27-7 which we thought was "close" for us at the time.

Not sure what the temp was but the coldest I remember feeling was at the Gator Bowl in '83.

I think game time temps were in the single digits. It was warmer in Iowa that night in December than it was in Jacksonville, fl. The temps broke a lot of records in Florida.

Hottest by far was the K. State game at Arrowhead. It was the only time that it was too hot to drink beer. I wasn't interested. I saw many people pass out from the heat and Bud Sueppel was seen by the medical personnel. The coldest game is harder. Purdue last year was really cold and my feet were literally on ice the whole game, I could never get them warm. It was also the only time I recall thinking I might fall on the stairs because they were completely iced up.

Did not have the "pleasure" of attending the game in KC, so I am going with the '13 NIU game as the hottest.
It's funny, I don't recall being cold inside the stadium...but the walk west on Melrose into a fierce headwind following the '12 Nebraska game was BRUTAL!!!

I'd agree with NIU 13' for the hottest and Michigan same year for the coldest.

But the coldest I ever felt at a game was Orange Bowl 09'. Long sleeve and jeans I was not prepared at all and coughed up $50 at half for a hoody sweatshirt. Luckily I was next to some good typical iowa fans who let me borrow a pair of extra gloves they had. Plus they snuck some booze in and nice enough to share some so I could warm myself up and keep the tailgate buzz going little longer.

1983 vs. Wisconsin, the tunnels beneath the east and west stands were packed at half time

Heard plenty of stories from HMBers about the '00 KSU game, but that was before my time. Didn't go to NIU either. Hottest for me was Kent State '04. Most miserable was Orange Bowl '03. It was evening and temp wasn't the highest, but it was darn near 100% humidity. Very little went well that trip, so everyone was cranky to begin with. Then the game happened.

Coldest temp was Michigan '13, though we were well prepared so it wasn't that bad. Coldest I perceived was PSU '08.

Tennessee Tech. Brutal rain, I left at the break and didn't go back. One of the very few times I've missed the end of a home game in the past 15 years.

My memory's not great either, but I think you might be recalling the '83 Minnesota game (or maybe '85???). Whichever is correct that was the coldest Hawkeye FB game I've ever attended. We went to the van at halftime to warm up and consume more alcohol.

Hottest by far for me was the KSU-IA game at Arrowhead in 2000. Tailgated on asphalt (stupid!), but after a handful of beers I was done and started to really push the water down. It was brutal and as I recall hardly a whisper of a breeze in the air. I saw a lot of people in medical distress that day. We were fortunate to have seats with shade inside the stadium as we were under the upper deck, but it was little relief. And our team just wasn't very good either at that point, which sucked. The K-State fans were very nice though.
