Hottest and coldest Iowa games you've attended?

Coldest: Northwestern in November, 1996. Temp was in the low 30's with gale force winds out of the northwest. The Hawkeyes failed to show for this one, and as noted above, Autry ran over us. 2nd place was Michigan in 2009.

Hottest: We usually come to Kinnick in October or November, so the heat usually isn't an issue. Purdue in 2006 was warm, as was Minny in 2012.

I don't remember the specific game, but the hottest for me may have been a game at Kinnink in the mid-1980's. I was sitting in the north endzone and thought I was going to die. I was much younger then and generally I love the sun. That was too much for me until I found some water and the shade beneath the stands to regroup.

The coldest is easy and nothing else comes close. It was reported as the coldest game in Jack Trice history when Kansas came to play ISU in 2013. Kickoff temperature was 8 degrees and it dropped to 3 by halftime. I believe it was 0 before the game was over. Fortunately I was well bundled up, had chemical heaters and there was little wind. There's no way a person could have survived hours in that bitter cold without that protection.

Yes he did kind of like how wadley and Mitchell did on jNW this year.

Yup. Kinda like Venric Mark scorching you guys in 2012. NU has to get back to knocking Hawkeye RB's and QB's out of games like they did in 2008 and 2009. That was fun to watch.

Iowa just needs to keep dominating the kitty cats as they've done last 2 years 48-7 and 40-10, now that was fun to watch just wiping out the whole team especially spoiling fitzs rose bowl team reunion. Looking forward to see Iowa make it 4 in a row this year over jNW.

hot............iowa vs k state..........in Kansas city. coldest iowa vs fla in Jacksonville, fl..........31 with a cold damp wind coming off the atlantic... back up QB also said it was the coldest he's ever been

I've been to two games at Kinnick (yes only 2). Vs NW in 1996 and Michigan in 2013. Michigan game was brutally cold but at least I was in the sun on the East Side. The guy next to me bought a coke at halftime and it was frozen solid by the start of the 4th quarter. The folks in the South EZ were in the shade and sitting on ice/snow. I heard it was pretty tough over there.

Last year's game vs N Texas was a hot one. But, it wasn't too bad up in the
Krause press box. Beer got kinda warm though.

The past 2 times the Neb Cornholers visited Kinnick were extremely cold days

Coldest.........Penn State at IOWA with Dan Murray's FG to win.
The north wind was really a howling that day.

Not sure if I remember the hottest. Seems like most of the Labor Day weekends are pretty hot. Coldest? Either Purdue last year or when we beat PSU right before the final gun. Wind chill was nasty that game!

This is my response exactly. I've been to several very hot games and since they are generally the first or second game of the season the opponent is rarely memorable. However, I as at that PSU game and Purdue last year (drove through the blizzard to get there). Temperature wise the Purdue game was colder but it was sunny which actually made it feel warmer. The PSU game was freezing for 3 quarters with the wind. The 4th quarter, not so much. I think the wind died down a bit and Iowa was actually doing something so it didn't seem as cold.

Know we've done this before, but always seems to be a fun discussion for the dog days of summer.

My choices:

Hottest: Iowa vs Kansas St in Kansas City, Eddie Robinson Classic, 8/26/00. Can't think of another game that even approaches this one for heat. Marching band members were keeling over. Water fountains in the concourse not working. Puddles of sweat between your feet. I remember chugging hot water from a gallon jug we had left in our car after the game.

Coldest: this one isn't as obvious for me. I remember the Minny game in '05 was pretty damn brisk. Michigan night game in '09 is up there - remember waking up to sideways snow that morning.

Your picks?
I agree on the Kansas City game. Our row was down to 2 people at the end of the game. Coldest I've ever been was Illinois 1985. In the low 30's and raining the whole game. Since we were winning we had to stay.

Not sure about the hottest...probably the NIU game, although Kent State was up there.

Coldest....definitely the 2012 Nebraska game. 2013 Michigan and Purdue last year were cold, but I wore extra layers. Feet were frozen, though.

Last year at Nebraska was horrible. My hands and feet were so frozen I couldn't feel the heat from the bad and feet warmers. Only time I've ever considered leaving a game.

Hottest was a couple of years ago when we lost to Western Michigan.
Coldest was Northwestern game in 2000. We spoiled their rose bowl bid.

Coldest games I have been to were the 91 game against Minnesota. I left at halftime. First and only time I have ever left a game early. Also the Northwestern game of 2000. Had a guy offer me $100 for my coat
Came across this fun thread when looking up that 2000 game. I was a sophomore student there at the time, and my gf and I sold the Frozen Minute Maid Lemonade in the NW corner end zone that day. It was listed 30 degrees at kickoff, and it fell to 22 during the game, but the wind made it absolutely suck at a 7 degree wind chill. Most people (including me) dressed for the kickoff temp and not what it plunged to, and with wind. Especially brutal working in the corner that funneled the wind. And people were still regularly buying. Not enough to sell out by halftime like most of the year, but I couldn’t believe it.

So props to those who went to all the games in 2000 and 2013, when each year produced both one of the hottest and coldest games in Hawkeye football history (I only missed the KSU at Arrowhead game of those four) . I’m shocked I have been to so many mentioned here…

1991 blizzard game vs Minnesota
2000 Northwestern Rose spoiler
2004 Kent State throwback game (got a ticket off a red faced guy for five bucks at tailgate)
2008 PSU natty spoiler
2010 Orange Bowl
2013 NIU (my wife’s first ever game)
2015 Purdue (friend and I bought, after tailgating, from a mom and kids who didn’t want to deal with it for $7.50 a ticket).

So I went to a couple BECAUSE people bailed due to temps.
