Hottest and coldest Iowa games you've attended?

2014 Nebraska game, stood on a solid block of ice for 3 hours and parked on the other side of the Iowa River and couldn't feel my feet. And the way we lost made it even colder.

Hottest I can recall was Western Michigan.

Most frigid was Gator Bowl because it was a wet cold. Brutal. Wore every layer and still froze, as did every Iowan around me. Close second was at Northwestern in '95. Seats coated in solid ice.

August 2002....Akron game. The temperature was hot......plus, my better half was 7 1/2 months pregnant. We left at 1/2 time as she had enough.

Coldest.....Michigan game 2013......sat in the handicapped section with my Dad in the south endzone......wind blowing in our faces the entire game. Was Dom Alvis' last home game, so we had a bunch of family up to watch his last game.

1983 vs. Wisconsin, the tunnels beneath the east and west stands were packed at half time

Minny game that year was cold as well. 1985 Minny was also cold and had snow on ground, but the win sent us to the Rose Bowl, so no effect from the cold.

in recent memory NIU in 2013 for hottest and coldest was a Nebraska game a few years ago (might have been 2012). I was in the south endzone so the scoreboard blocked any sun and the wind was howling in from the north. It was a cold day and a game Iowa should have won.

Also the K-State Iowa game in arrowhead years ago. I was much younger but I remember it them saying it was like 115 degrees on the field and my family was lucky enough to have 2nd row seats. that was a scorcher

I thought there would be more votes for the '90 Hawaii game. Of course all but about 20 people probably died that day.

Last year at Nebraska. The parking lots were pure ice and I saw everyone in our group slip at least once.

Luck for me, I slipped on the way to the game into a giant puddle of water :(

Never noticed... Because wine bota!

Yes kids, you were allowed to have fun at games back in the day. (And no, I wasn't one of those fools that don't even remember the games :))

Surprised it hasn't been mentioned, but one of the hottest was that Kent State gem where we wore the throwback jerseys. They gave away those plastic, straw hats and people were using them to fill up with water and drink out of.

It was mentioned once . . .

Anyway, yeah, I remember the cheerleaders had old-style sweaters. For a half, then they had to change to a slightly more heat-friendly modern style.

Was that the game Drew Tate had to leave early cause of cramps? I do remember thinking how I'm the world are the cheerleaders not dropping like flys wearing those sweaters.

Not Iowa, but I went to Texas A&M vs Rice in 2013 and it was about 110 with no wind or cloud cover. Literally defines hot as hell for me.

Coldest I can remember was Purdue '08 and at Minnesota '10. Coker ran for 200+ yards and then fumbled late in the fourth quarter. It was cold, there were snow piles on the field, and we lost. Awful.

Didn't DJK return a kick in that game too? I remember thinking "what the hell? A RB goes off for 200, we get a special teams TD, and somehow we don't win because the defense was cold and sick of trying that year?"

Hottest -- Hawaii in 1991
Coldest -- Either Minnesota in 1985 or Michigan State in 1984
Wettest -- Ohio State in 1992

Honorable mention for the coldest/wettest goes to Iowa at Michigan State in 2012. Constant rain, wind, and cold. I left at halftime.

Iowa's game with Michigan on Nov 23 2013 is the coldest game on record in Kinnick stadium. The high was 18 degrees that day but It was around 8 degrees at kickoff and wind chills were below zero. Ironically one of the hottest games ever in kinnick was NIU earlier in the season.

This is my vote. Brought my daughter who lived in Arizona at the time to the Michigan game. She had so many layers she could barely walk from the train. By the 2nd quarter, she had my Carharts on too and I had frostbite starting to set in.

I will go the UNI game where Iowa blocked the 2 FGs at the end as my daughter sat down on the first row in the south endzone. As for the coldest, I will go with the MSU game in 81 (I believe) when Long ran the bootleg (may have been 83). I sat near the top of the south endzone and damn near froze my toes off. They hurt so bad I could hardly walk home.

Then there was the late 80s game against Minnesota with the foot or so of snow. It may not have been the coldest but parking was a mess.

Hottest was probably the '13 NIU. I think an underrated cold game was the '04 Wisconsin game at the end of the year for a share of the title. 2:30 start, and once the sun went down, it was downright frigid. '12 Nebraska is right up there, if only because of the vicious wind.

I think game time temps were in the single digits. It was warmer in Iowa that night in December than it was in Jacksonville, fl. The temps broke a lot of records in Florida.

Jacksonville in 1983 to meet Florida in what was then called the Gator Bowl game. The night of the game, Dec. 30, it was cold, 34 degrees at kickoff. It got colder with the chill factor making it feel like 18 degrees near the end of the game.

After looking it up, KC's downtown airport reported a high temp of 99 that day. MCI, to the west of downtown had a high of 97. Arrowhead is on the other side of downtown from MCI, so it could have been even hotter than 99.

I've been in Texas and New Mexico in the summer, but I can honestly say that the hottest I've ever been in my life was at that game. I was in the marching band. They dropped us off at the farthest reaches of the parking lot, had us dress in full uniform, and then parade march over to perform at a U of I special tailgate what seemed like half a mile away on the other side of the stadium. Then we had to parade March straight into the stadium and onto the field for the pregame performance. At this point we'd been going for nearly an hour straight in the full wool uniforms with no shade and no water while also having to have played our instruments. We did the pregame, which ended up with several members passing out on the field or on the sideline right after. As we marched off the field and up to our seats just above an end zone in the sun, I saw a thermometer hanging from the wall. I don't remember what it was exactly, but I seem to recall it being around 117. That was air temp at field level, I can't imagine how hot the turf was.

Once we were in our seats they allowed us to take off our coats and distributed our one Dixie cup of water for the first quarter. That's when we saw the KSU marching band come into the stadium wearing shorts and t-shirts which really didn't help the situation. Eventually it didn't take long for the situation to devolve as several other band members started having heat exhaustion in the stands while we were supposed to be playing during timeouts and such. More water was provided, but it wasn't even remotely close to enough. We had to be back fully dressed with a few minutes left in the second quarter for our halftime performance. Several people didn't make it out onto the field for that. The rest of the game is kind of a blur for me other than remembering that they actually allowed us to go seek shelter in the concourse. The only time that ever happened in my time with the band. A lot of us that stayed in the seats had stripped down to our shorts to try to cool body temps. But we weren't allowed to take our pants off, so they were just pulled down to our ankles. I'm sure it would have been a pretty funny site if not for the major health risks to all of us. I seem to remember that there was a mandatory dry cleaning of the uniforms for the entire band after that game. That is usually only done after the season is over, not after the very first game.

As bad as we had it, the two guys we sent to be Herky that day had it worse. I talked to them that night, they would strap a bag of ice to their neck underneath the costume before going out. It would be fully melted in less than 15 minutes. I think they only went out in 20-30 minute spurts during the game in order to cool off and hydrate. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the temperature inside of that black fiberglass head with no ventilation was in the 130-140 range by the time they took it off.

The 2004 Kent State game was hot, the 2009 UNI game was also hot. I attended both of those so I can agree with those sentiments, but that 2000 KSU game was on a whole different level.

Ive been to some pretty cold college football games but don't recall any brutally cold Iowa games. Game against KSU at Arrowhead was by far the hottest. I think it was almost 110. Luckily I was shaded under the overhang. Many fans were treated for heat problems but miraculously don't recall any players having to be treated.

I am now too old to remember the hottest, and I was too drunk to remember the coldest. I do remember the wettest: 2011 Tennessee Tech. Most memorable: Trick or Treat Iowa City.

The bootleg game against MSU was 1985 and it was early October. Not a particularly nice day, but not that cold.

However, Long did keep the ball on an option in 83 (or 84) at the end of the game and didn't make it. Don't remember the weather.

The 1980 game against MSU was pretty cold, but maybe I just remember it that way because I had the flu. We won and went to the Rose Bowl - wasn't going to miss that one.

I don't remember my hottest. It's usually one of the first three games of the season, at least for me.

Coldest: Iowa vs Penn State 2008. I'll always remember how brutally cold that night game was. But I'll remember one of the proudest victories in Hawkeye history even more.

Coldest
2010 @ Minnesota TCF Bank Stadium
Really cold & snowed the night before. Got to the stadium and discovered that the Gophers had removed snow everywhere except the sections reserved for Iowa fans.... assholes

Coldest - Purdue when Shonn Greene was tearing it up. Sitting about 3 rows from the top. Absolutely BRUTAL

Coldest...Minnesota in '85. Snowstorm the night before....frigid temps.
Hottest...Colorado in '88. Hot and humid...brutal down on the old plastic turf.

Coldest - I can't remember the year exactly (last 5 years). Was at the ice box in Minneapolis - it was a night game. I had more gear on than Santa and I still froze my ass off. And oh yeah - we played like shit that night (didn't help the cold) Evertyime the goofers made a first down they did that STUPID ISU chant (theres another golden goofer first down) in that ridiculous accent of theirs. Brutal ....

Coldest games I have been to were the 91 game against Minnesota. I left at halftime. First and only time I have ever left a game early. Also the Northwestern game of 2000. Had a guy offer me $100 for my coat

If it wasn't the Long bootleg game that was the coldest, it was a game against MSU, maybe my brain froze along with my toes and it wasn't MSU. It was in November and it was the last game of the season.

My choices are both road games:
Hot - in Tucson 1998
Cold - in Champaign 1996 (brutal north wind off the turf and sat in front row of south endzone)

Know we've done this before, but always seems to be a fun discussion for the dog days of summer.

My choices:

Hottest: Iowa vs Kansas St in Kansas City, Eddie Robinson Classic, 8/26/00. Can't think of another game that even approaches this one for heat. Marching band members were keeling over. Water fountains in the concourse not working. Puddles of sweat between your feet. I remember chugging hot water from a gallon jug we had left in our car after the game.

Coldest: this one isn't as obvious for me. I remember the Minny game in '05 was pretty damn brisk. Michigan night game in '09 is up there - remember waking up to sideways snow that morning.

Your picks?
Hottest - KSU in Arrowhead on Sept. 2000

Coldest - NW in Kinnick in Nov.1995. Cold, windy & rainy turning to freezing rain by dark. Hawks got smoked that day by Rose Bowl bound 'Cats w/Darnell Autry and Pat Fitzgerald broke a bone. One of my friends caught pneumonia from that game. That was the game Fry told Ryan Driscoll to replace Matt Sherman @ QB in the 4Q and Driscoll told him he was too froze up to get warmed up, so they left Sherman in.

KSU game in KC was the hottest I've ever been to. I remember a lady a few rows in front of us took off her shirt and sat in her bra for a portion of the game. Also, I might be wrong here but I thought an older gentleman was taken out of the stadium by EMT and ended up dying that day.

I was also at the Michigan game in 2013. Cold as frick but if you put on enough layers, it wasn't completely miserable.
