House GOP releases budget resolution — tax cuts for rich, $5T increase in deficit, increase ceiling by $4T, $880B in Medicaid cuts, SNAP cut by 20%

Again, I am asking where in OP those items are listed, as I didn't see them and want to make sure I am reading what was posted correctly.

The Yahoo article re-iterates what I saw, it asks certain committees for reduced spending proposals over the next 9 years ?

The Energy and Commerce Committee, which handles health care spending, is asked to cut $880 billion over the decade, while the Education and Workforce Committee is asked to reduce spending by $330 billion. The Agriculture Committee is asked to save $230 billion, while the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee is asked to find at least $10 billion in cuts through 2034.

I don't see where that says "cut" anything specific?
what was released was the framework of the budget (which will then be developed in more detail at the committee level)

this is the starting point...the round numbers the house gop would like to see in the final budget that will get approved later this year

you won't see specific cuts...but you can extrapolate in some cases how those cuts can be achieved

53% Trump Territory:

Ironically, probably all the money for Huntsville residents' energy subsidies comes from Blue states....
This type of stuff is a huge part of the Let it Burn movement. Trump and Musk are going to find out very very fast how a huge chunk of MAGA are also low income and poor and on government tit. Both the poor MAGAs and the billionaires pulling the strings think poor people getting help in life from the federal government are all all black and brown and live in the cities. They are fixing to find out.

Summary:
  • +$5T deficit, -2T in spending cuts
  • Increase debt ceiling by $4T
  • $300B in new spending for border security (including judiciary/immigration judges and border patrol)
  • $880B in Medicaid program cuts
  • 20% cut ($230B) in SNAP program funding
  • Ending school breakfast and lunch program
  • $330B in education cuts
  • $4.5T in tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy
And all of that is precisely my point on why I roll my eyes at this whole DOGE business.

Trump is going to shatter record deficits and the MAGA Idiot Brigade will still view this as a win for small government.

As an actual small government conservative, I can tell you it’s not.

Exactly this. Federal spending is overwhelmingly slanted towards red states. This has been the case for decades. And it’s not just the poor. Farm subsidies (aka welfare for landowners), business owners with government contracts and many more will be impacted. These folks vote team red in large numbers.

Which is why I think he won’t actually follow through on his full spending cuts. They will eventually gut a few token programs near and dear to Dems and claim success. Meanwhile the deficit will keep on growing larger and larger.

There is not a single politician in Washington DC who can claim any mantle of fiscal responsibility without advocating for significant defense cuts. At least half At least. Our spending is not realistic. We account for 40% of worldwide defense spending. That is in a country with no natural enemies in our hemisphere.

The starting negotiation should be half. I’d advocate for 2/3.

I'd impose minimum across the board cuts to all areas of the budget,.. 1% per year, for the next 5 years.

Man, who saw this coming?

I'm waiting for the non-voters with econ degrees to tell us how much we don't understand about this budget and to make snarky comments about people being concerned with this. You know, the true visionaries that told us it was going to be ok all last year leading up to the election they decided not to participate in at the highest, most important level. I'm sure they knew ;)

It's a concept of a budget!

This needs to be in the FAFO thread.

So, that's a $5T increase in the deficit including the $2T in spending cuts? So without the cuts the deficit would be $7T? Or is the total deficit increase only $3T?

Okay.

What about the elephant in the room? 4.5 T in tax cuts.

Not sure what makes up your 4.5T but I would retain current tax cuts from the first Trump administration, but not introduce new tax cutting measures until after the result of spending cuts can be viewed...

This is a great example of "common sense". Come up with an overly simplistic solution that requires no actual thought about the whatever the issue may be.

Sometimes simple is best,.. In the past, anytime we've tried to go after the budget line item by line item, Congress gets attacked by lobbyists, special interest groups, Wall Street and big business,.. All whining over how they are deserving of the status quo and about to be mistreated,.. Across the board cuts eliminate all of that finger pointing,.. Everybody gets to feel some pain.
