Housing is now unaffordable for a record half of all U.S. renters, study finds

Sure would be nice if the Republican lead House would address this issue. But we all know Donnie would tell them to stop it just like he told them to not move on an immigration bill because God forbid they accomplish something.....well, ever.

Totally not true. The economy is the best it's ever been. Everyone is doing great in their everyday life. Inflation is way down. Things have never been more affordable.

Or maybe it's true because the exit polls revealed that it was the second most important issue to voters, behind the border. Now the DFL has to get out ahead of it and blame the Republicans just like the border is now being blamed on them.

Is posting this supposed to be an indictment on Biden? Now I’m confused.

Dems have been complaining about housing affordability for a while now….but were told that people should pull themselves up by their bootstraps.

There is little reason for developers to solve the housing issue on the supply side…they own rentals…which are cash flowing assets.

This is one of the reasons the economy isn't polling well. Not being able to afford rent has a direct effect on people....3.3% GDP growth doesn't. Not being able to afford the high interest on home loans etc...

That's the headwind Joe faces when trying to sell bidenomics.

A large disconnect between Americans and politically minded democrats, as evident in this thread.

Be specific. Show your work? Americans such as myself have never had more wealth and buying power. Lower wage workers like yourself are doing well, too. Dollar for dollar your wages are more than keeping pace with inflation

CBS reporter asked everyone outside of a supermarket in New Hampshire how thy were doing in the economy. He couldn't fine ONE person who said they were happy with it. Every person said they're struggling with the prices of everything. It was funny watching him try to relay that message to the Dem anchors who only wanted to hear how great everything was. The bubble is real.

What is the Republican plan to deal with high rent, OP?

Too Damn High Rent GIF

To be clear the housing issue is a lack of supply issue, which has been an issue for decades. Only had a large decrease and glut in the great recession.

Again its a supply issue, there isn't enough housing available which is increasing the rent. You smart enough to figure out how to fix the problem???

To be fair, we are talking about 34% of the population, so 17% of the US citizens find their rent unaffordable. Which is a slight uptik.

Also Rents have only marginally outpaced inflation over the last 30 years. Housing Prices have jumped up drastically.

How many Americans own homes or residential rental property?

They all have benefited from the run up in housing values?

I suspect it is far more than 17% of the US population

Thanks Joe!

Always increasing property taxes, insurance went up 32% over last year, city water, sewer and landfill tipping fees up, city inspection fees up, mortgage rates down slightly after doubling, so yeah the cost of apartment ownership is way up. Rents follow...
Isn’t that a states actions?

Welp, the value of my home has nearly doubled since we bought it in 2015. Rent is increasing too you say?

Thank you for sharing this.

Let’s start by prohibiting large corporations from buying up residential properties

Same with foreign investment in residential real estate. They can get the **** out.

This. The government's role in this is to incentivize individual home ownership and discourage companies like Blackrock from gobbling up inventory, either through laws or tax code.

Came to see if anyone else would say this.

Corporations buying up swaths of homes is the main issue. Go here https://search.register.shelby.tn.us/search/ , search Yamaso Co Ltd- 500 homes under this one entity, and they have like 8-9 different ones.

Buy up rentals, secure renters, package them and sell them as a investment package to someone...

Meanwhile, starter homes are all owned by rental companies, and a certain price range you can't find a house because they're all owned by a company.

Then the complaints should be appropriately addressed to state and local politicians and not lobbed at national politicians. But then the Republican agenda here would not be served, right?
Who's blaming it on the feds joel?

It won't burst until after the election. 2025 or 2026 will have a nice correction.

Well, 3 years of hyperinflation will do that to prices. Thanks to an irresponsible tax cut and then the Covid bills, the consequence of that was high inflation. Bills brought on by Republican Congresses and a Republican President. Of course, Republicans then blamed Democrats for the inflation and the reality is prices aren't just going to go back to what they were. That's not how any of this works because there are profits to be made! If Republicans get in power again suddenly none of this will be a problem any more. And if it is, it will be the Democrats fault nothing gets done about it even though it will be Republicans who refuse to vote for the bill. Ok, maybe Democrats too because the Republican "fix" will be something like eliminating Medicare or something stupid like that.
