88-89? I was a high school freshman. I'm just learning about their music now. I like it. Kind of a cross between The Kinks and The Cure. Can't go wrong there.

Well?

Love the Pixies. They just had a reunion tour not too long ago, where I think they played Doolittle in its entirety. Think they still play out, but not with Kim Deal, which stinks.

I saw Frank Black open for They Might Be Giants at Liberty Lunch in Austin. Must have been about 1994. Frank did quite a few Pixies tunes. Really good show.

I f that band was a painter they would have been Salvador Dali.

Just when they started to get recognition in the early 90's, they decided to hate each other and broke up. Huge influence on the bands that followed but their name was kinda obscured. When they got back together, people went back and discovered their old music.

You're not alone Yellow. I too only discovered them a couple of years ago. I think their sound is pretty original. However, I hear their influence in other bands, namely, Nirvana.

Growing up in Iowa it was hard to get exposed to good music, a girlfriend from Texas introduced me to the Pixies in 1992, Also Fugazi was her favorite.

In HS my friends an I were glued to 120 minutes on MTV, sunday nights at 10pm. We also used to go to Minneapolis on record buying expeditions, hitting up Northern Lights and The Electric Fetus....to great record stores that had EVERYTHING imaginable.
When I lived in Reinbeck....i used to listen to KUNI at night. There was a show called "the progression session", and the DJ would play everything under the sun.
