What are some shows that you started watching well after they first aired? I'm talking years after the series premiere. The last 2 months or so the wife no pics and I have been watching a ton of Portlandia. Somehow I had never even heard of it up until a couple months ago. I'm a huge fan of sketch comedy, so I was kinda caught off guard by how ****ing funny it was and how many actors were in it that I was familiar with. I can't get enough of it now.

Another one would be It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I had heard about it, but never watched it until the covid shutdown. Got all caught up during that, and now it's one of my favorite shows. Parks and Rec also fits the bill. I didn't start watching that until just a few years ago.

I've never heard of Portlandia. I just started Ted Lasso on Tuesday, pretty funny.

Curb is one show that I started watching 20 years after it began, get fully caught up on it, then was able to watch the series finale live. Very few shows exist today that will give you that ability. Simpsons, South Park, and Family guy are all animated ones and then the procedurals like Law & Order or NCIS.

Gosh I would say most shows that I've seen at this point were ones I watched after they already ended.
It's gotten to the point that I wait until they end to even think about watching. Nothing worse than committing to a show only to have it cancelled after three seasons with all kinds of unresolved issues. The other reason is, the way they work now, it might be more than a year between seasons for successful shows.

Very true. This is me currently waiting for the Stranger Things fifth and final season (damn thing debuted in 2016):

The big three from HBO (The Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood).

I came to Wire/Deadwood late. Loved em. Still have't watched the Sopranos.

Was definitely late to Firefly. And late to all the Walked Dead spin offs, just fizzled on TWD at season 10. Late to Dexter.

Now that I think about it, Im late to basically all the shows once DVRs became a thing. Just prefer to watch tv on my schedule.

I have wanted to get into The Wire. May have to do that one of these days now that college football is winding down.

Football has been over for about 7 weeks....

Firefly is a good one. Saw that finally this summer

Hannibal (NBC) originally aired from 2013 to 2015.

I binge watched the entire series during my quarantine week in 2021.

Excellent thriller. Dark at times.

One of the best TV series I've ever watched, and definitely the best TV series I've ever watched that originally aired on network television.

I've definitely got some kind of bias going on, as I am making my fourth trip through the Sopranos, but it is the greatest show ever created imo. Brilliant writing, acting, and creativity in almost every episode. James Gandolfini knocked that role so far out of the park it's not even funny. You'll both love and hate many of the main characters. Just so well done. Fair warning though, the ending may give you feelings (no spoiler warning).

I think the only shows that I’ve recently watched as they were originally aired were the various iterations of Yellowstone. Everything else I don’t watch until years later.

24 is endlessly rewatchable to me. I like the way that the seasons are pretty much self contained with just a little overflow from previous seasons. You can pick a season and have at it.

I didn't start watching TWD until it had been on for several years. Think I binge-watched the first four, maybe 5 seasons on Netflix, then began watching it weekly as new episodes aired.

Holy fook, two seasons wasn't enough huh?

Yeah, if you didn’t like GoT after 2 seasons, you weren’t going to like it ever. I liked it from the jump, but was probably fully hooked halfway through Season 1.

I’ve started shows a little late, but not too late for the most part….but one exception was Community. It never drew any interest from me at all, then my oldest suggested it and we really liked it.

Hacks is another show I only started this fall, so I was able to binge all 3 seasons currently out.

I have thought about giving Blacklist a shot.
It’s a solid show - probably ran 2-3 seasons too long. Lead actress left the show with two seasons left and it wasn’t the same.

Really enjoyed it for the most part until then.

Breaking Bad
X-Files
Ozark

Fraser
Arrested Development
Better Call Saul (Just started season 4 last night)
Monk
Friends
Scrubs

Downton Abbey and Poldark, fictional stories set in historical periods. The former a very “chick” show and the latter somewhat of a chick show. Binged both on Amazon Prime. The Brits really do have a talent for turning uninteresting topics into interesting stories.

I must admit TBW and I both enjoyed Poldark quite a bit.

I liked the old week to week TWD chat thread we had going on the site that shall not be named. One of the few shows I actually was watching week to week.

Minus Lost, that is most of my list. BBT we started watching when it was in syndication, but still putting out new shows. Downton Abbey I didn't start watching until Season 5 and was racing to catch up when I found out how good it was. GoT I had co-workers talking about it all the time, and one of them had 1-3 on DVD, and I watched it prior to the start of season 4.

Anymore I don't watch a show as it's rolled out week to week. The exception was the first few seasons of Yellowstone, but it's go so far downhill and I'll catch up on the rest eventually.

Tried to watch some shows while they were still happening and eventually caught up to see the finale as it happened:
Better Call Saul
Game of Thrones
How I Met Your Mother
Bones
Big Bang Theory
